President Donald Trump announced after the close of trading Friday that the United States will impose an additional 100% tariff on Chinese imports starting November 1, 2025, in response to what he described as China’s "extraordinarily aggressive position on Trade."
In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said China had sent an "extremely hostile letter to the World" indicating plans to implement "large scale Export Controls on virtually every product they make" affecting all countries without exception.
The announcement from Trump follows an earlier statement from the president on China about the country’s aggressive behaviour. The earlier statement caused markets to sell off on Friday, with the Dow finishing down 1.9%, the S&P 500 falling 2.7%, and the tech-heavy NASDAQ dropping 3.6%. Losses continued after-hours in futures markets following the additional tarrif announcement.
Trump characterized China’s planned export controls as "absolutely unheard of in International Trade, and a moral disgrace in dealing with other Nations."
The president stated that in addition to the 100% tariff, which would be applied on top of existing tariffs, the U.S. would also impose export controls on "any and all critical software" beginning November 1.

Trump has zero play with China, there is no hand to play. They are the only country on earth that has the ability to bring the US economy to a halt easily. He just needs to drop it and move on until there are other major global supplier of rare earth minerals. There is no workaround on the geopolitical board.

That kind of works both ways doesn’t it? China would implode with US dollars for their crap.

Yeah but they have much more isolated economy and it is much easier to find new markets for your goods, or workarounds to sell your goods into the US than it is to find new suppliers of rare rather minerals

So did Trump call them and tell them to restrict their export or did China start this?
Because to me it sounds like China did this.

China started it after the Trump admin didn’t do what they asked them to do - full removal of tariffs and ends on export controls. Trump also started all of this

This would be a good point in a vacuum, but it’s not a vacuum.
Trump started a trade war with China months ago and this is a continuation of that.
Delusional to think China wouldn’t use their leverage to piss on Trumps leg.

It’s also delusional to think we should continue to be Chinas puppet as they suck the life out of the worlds manf base.
This shite has gone on too long.

How so? 10% market correction?

I'm a typical small business owner. I have a container that may or may not ship out of China before Nov 1. It'll be close. That $100k container I've already paid for may or may not cost me $200k. I could get fricked if it doesn't ship out in time, and then I'm going to frick the consumer, assuming they even want to buy those products at twice the price.

Do you have any solutions that can be implemented short term?
This on-again, off-again tariff crap just isn’t working and is bringing economic growth to a halt. There is a reason trade deals are supposed to be approved by congress.

Trump is playing existing cards, hes just loud about it. This isn't about trump. American people who think china is a legit actor and just doesnt like trump are delusional.
You think Xi constantly saying Taiwan 2027 is just for play?
We are watching inevitable momentum. Two cars sliding on ice towards each other, you can turn the wheel and hit the brakes, blame the driver, change the driver, but it doesnt matter, we are going to the same destination.
