The United States really is a miracle

Super liberals love comparing the United States to the Scandanavian countries and wondering why we can't be more like the Scandanavian countries, which is dopey. Denmark and Sweden have about the same population of metro Atlanta and the land mass of two metro Atlanta's. Norway isn't much bigger. Plus, those countries are all lily white and have a strong sense of cultural identity. When just about everybody looks the same and shares the same cultural identity, it's way easier to govern and create a sense of greater national good.

These countries are not our best comps. These countries are American's best comps (top 15 in both land mass and population)...

• Brazil
• Mexico
• Congo
• Indonesia

...Yet, the United States' median income ranks alongside the Scandanavian countries, and none of the comps listed above even rank in the top 40. There's also quality of life among our poorest, relative to the other countries on the list above. The poorest Americans still have reliable shoes, modern housing, and plenty to eat (often too much to eat). This isn't normal for very large nation-states.

So many Americans are so frigging spoiled and have no idea how good they have it. It's okay to complain about the United States, because the United States isn't perfect and also being able to complain is in America's very first amendment. But many Americans should also take a little more time to count their blessings every now and them. The truth is that we all struck the lottery when we were born.
