The MSB keeps telling me it's a terrible product, so why does viewership keep going up?

People like to watch football. People like to bitch about the football they're watching. Film at 11.

Do these numbers include International viewers? Sports betting boosts numbers too.

The NFL is a runaway freight train as far as the most popular entertainment product in this country. I’m honestly not sure what would have to happen to slow it down.

Fantasy
Sports betting
The absolute cratering of “appointment viewing” due to the surplus of content.

We love football more than ever!
Just stop calling so many holding penalties on kick returns bc it ruins our happiness.

People watch the frick out of reality TV and it’s objectively bad.

Gays and trans watch now thanks to all the pandering by the league.

Cowboys have had some very entertaining games in key slots, plus the Chiefs still get those eyeballs. Let’s see where we’re at in a month or so.

This can’t be stated enough. It’s one of the very few things in life that has to be consumed in real time. Everything else can be consumed on demand at your pleasure.

Yep, sports needs to be watched live. Or at least before you know the results

How many households put the local game on at Noon, and then just leave it on Fox or CBS while they start cooking, etc.?
How many of those games listed were the 3:30PM kickoff?

Nielsen has recently overhauled their entire ratings system. Streaming viewership was the driving force behind the overhaul, but also new ratings measurement methods were aimed at capturing more "out-of-home" viewers.
The vast majority of out-of-home viewers involve sports. Bars, restaurants, watching parties, a friend’s house are all place people gather to watch sports, and viewership numbers have increased across the sports landscape since Nielsen rolled out their new process at the beginning of the year because they are capturing more of the OOH viewers
These viewership gains were expected, especially for the NFL.

It’s a much better product than it was 5-10 years ago
Offenses are creative enough to where bad QBs can still run an offense good enough to keep games close
