The last government shutdown ended when Republicans folded after TSA and Air Traffic Controllers started no showing for work. Businesses started being affected, disruptions grew, and the people who give money to Republicans started voicing their concerns.

We are headed that way again. Yesterday the tower in Burbank was left unmanned. Expect more.

Will the Republicans fold again?

***Update***

Update:

It’s spreading.

More no shows, sick outs now in

Atlanta
Seattle
LA
Salt Lake City
Phoenix
Denver
Dallas Love
DFW
Kansas City
Minneapolis St Paul
Chicago Midway
Miami
NYC La Guardia
NYC JFK
Newark

Delays and cancellations are multiplying.

This will force Republicans to fold and give Democrats what they want if past occurrence are any indication.

They were being covered by something called TRACOM out of San Diego and it was from 4:15 - 10pm. There are delays starting to happen across the country.

Can you hire replacements with something like this? Fire the no shows for collusion and insubordination?

How did Reagan fire a bunch of controllers back in the 80s? Could that be done today?

We have a pretty significant ATC shortage already. It takes quite a while to train them. It isn't a plug and play response.

Federal workers aren’t allowed to strike by law. When PATCO went on strike, Reagan fired over 11,000 air traffic controllers and banned them from federal jobs. Clinton lifted the ban in 1993.

Yea, but how did he fire 11,000 air traffic controllers?

There were 11,000 controllers ready to fill those slots? Were things really fricked up for a while?

Initial disruption:

The firing of over 11,000 members of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization (PATCO) created immediate disruptions in air travel.

However, the system did not collapse, as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) kept air traffic moving with replacement workers, including supervisors, non-striking controllers, and military personnel.

If true, that makes it sound like they are fairly easy to replace.

Not really, I wouldn't think... remember, any pool you have to draw from has been long polluted by policies that inhibited skill and merit- this ain't the 80s anymore.

No way in hell the Republicans cave on this. This is the same bill that the Libtard’s voted to pass six months ago. Trump learned a lot in his first term. I don't know if you have noticed but he ain't playing this time around. I love it. The Libtard’s have no leverage. This is what I voted for.

There are a couple on this board. Maybe they will come along shortly. Look into how long it takes to fully train ATC and look into the shortage we currently have. The comparison to what Reagan did is apples to oranges due to entirely different scenarios and the times we are in.
