Update on my quest to get to Japan with 50¢

Started off real slow. It took me over three months to sell the $2 item for $20.
My rule is I can only buy things that go towards Japan with money generated with money from previous declared Japanese trip items, and the purchase must be caught on video.
That means the nearly $20,000 in sales I’ve had over the last 4 months doesn’t count towards the total.
Items:
T-shirt - paid 50¢ - sold for $2
Oil gauge - paid $2 - sold for $20
Video games - paid $10- sold for $60
Zippos - paid $2 - sold for $50
Teddy Bear - paid $1 - sold for $25
Helmet - paid $5 - sold for $20
After eBay fees, I have about $133 to spend.
That’s right, I’ve only made $133 in a little over 5 months, but now it will start increasing exponentially quick.

Now that I have ammo, it won’t take long to reach my goal of about $8000 to pay for the trip (I’m talking about just the flights and hotel).
The $133 I have, I will probably turn that into over $500 after just one weekend of garage sales.

Thank you for creating non-"brain rot" content for YouTube.

I just booked my trip to Tokyo in December using some cash and American Express points... a 6-day, 5-night business class flight, and a Tokyo Hilton stay was right at 2k.
When are you trying to go?

On one hand this is fascinating.
On the other hand it very clearly illustrates opportunity cost at work.
Could you work OT or get a second job and make the money faster? Start with more capital and do the same ebay process?
I love flipping stuff on ebay, dont get me wrong. But I don't do enough to send a family to Japan and I also consider the time that it takes to be a sunk cost, IE I list the items and ship them when I would already be doing similar tasks.

I have a real job that pays 6 figures. I don’t need to do eBay for supplemental income, I do it as a hobby, and my hobby generates money that I use to pay for trips, nice dinners, and other things (hookers & cocaine).
Both my daughters love going to garage sales (my wife hates them), and my youngest is doing some small flipping now as well.
I don’t hunt, fish, or golf. My hobby is flipping, and I keep that money separate from my “real” money.
I’m hoping to retire within three years, and plan to do it (almost) full time when I do retire.
This experiment is just to see how fast I could do it.

I think it’s cool and I’m looking forward to your updates.

Kind of a badass movie line right there. I could see Jason Statham as "The Flipper," and ex-hitman-turned-flipper, living the quiet life down da bayou, who gets sucked back into his ole, arse-kickin' habits when his sweetheart is murdered while they are out buying old jacuzzi parts on facebook marketplace.

I can see this snowballing really quickly. Seems like the hardest part is over and you can really make some money with a bigger bankroll

A real job that pays six figures lol. Thanks for the clarity. You must be in sales.

Curious. Have considered ebay selling but never overly serious.
Total sales = 157
After ebay fees = 133
Does ebay charge 15% for item sales or does your $ include taxes, extra shipping costs etc?
