So I've been summoned to serve JD with a US District Court.

How do they differ from each other.

And what type of trials are talking about?

I think you have to wear a tie to federal court.

you can probably look at the court and court dates, check the schedules for the judges and guess.

But if you got a fed court summons, the difference in parish court is that you need to show up.

The ex had to do this years ago and it lasted about 2 months. They put her on a jury to do federal indictments.
90% of the cases were meth cases in Livingston and Tangipahoa parish.

They'd meet in a room and go over possible cases to bring to court.
They gave them a list of meth making ingredients, etc., and if the defendant checked off enough items, they were indicted.

Water hose, coffee filters, ammonia, etc.

The feds had to get involved because the local law enforcement was too corrupt.

Just had it in July. Business casual dress. Pays more than parish court. $40/day if I remember correctly. That’s a petit jury, grand jury may be different.

ETA: plus mileage both ways.

$50

Also work pays separate jury duty pay from PTO.

I was on a grand jury for the district court. 6 month appointment, once a week. You'll know if it's for a grand jury or petit jury when you show up. If you're planning on giving an excuse to the judge it better be good because they might grill you on it.

Different types of cases. I was a juror in Houston for a Visa fraud scheme. The schemesters were bringing in Indian nationals illegally. Most disappeared into the country. It was a mixture of South Texas, Mexican and Indian evildoers who pulled it off.

Did you already respond? Throw the damn thing away if now. They can’t prove you got it.

I got picked for the court house over there on poydras street. Thankfully I was 1 of 7 of us that got to stay downstairs. Never did call me back to come again.

They do pay you per mile you have to drive. I made 150 bucks that day.

I’ve served on both.

Things may have changed. This was years ago.

When you got to the courthouse, th Feds gave you a number. I believe I was #5. They put us in the courtroom. I was juror 5. They asked questions of each of us beginning with number 1. Jurors were removed. I wound up juror 2. The trails lasted 3-1/2 weeks.

The parish jury I served on was not that way, but I forget just how that one was determined.

That's a grand jury, not a trial jury.

Not sure what the OP was summoned to.

This is pretty rare these days and depends on the district.
If required, it will be stated on the document near the bottom.

Bad plan for federal court. They will follow up with increasing measures until they get your attention.

SIAP, but:

Can we take a minute to ponder in absolute disbelief just how SH*T jury duty pay is?

Of ALL the GD wasteful spending by our glorious government, they can’t be assed to pay a decent days pay for such an important duty?!?
