In the running for worst commissioner in all of sports. What an absolutely tone deaf moron lol. If these players ever decide to leave and do their own thing, the wnba will be more of a laughing stock than it already is, if that’s possible.

CBS Sports

quote:

At Unrivaled this past February, I sat across from Cathy and asked how she planned to address the officiating issues in our league. Her response was, 'Well, only the losers complain about the refs.'

quote:

I also asked how she planned to fix the fact that players like Caitlin, Angel and Paige, who are clearly driving massive revenue for the league, are making so little for their first four years. Her response was, 'Caitlin should be grateful she makes $60 million off the court because without the platform the WNBA gives her, she wouldn't make anything.'

Uhhhhhhhhh

quote:

In that same conversation, she told me 'players should be on their knees thanking their lucky stars for the media rights deal that I got them.'

The league believes it succeeds despite its players, not because of them.

quote:

But what's truly unsustainable is keeping a good product on the floor while allowing officials to lose control of games. Fans see it every night. Coaches, both winning and losing, point it out every night in pre- and post-game media. And leadership just issues fines and looks the other way. They ignore the issues that everyone inside the game is begging them to fix. That is negligence.

More like the commish should be thanking her lucky stars that Caitlin Clark became a huge national star and household name playing for Iowa....and brought a bunch of new eye balls to WNBA games right around the time they were in negotiations for their next TV rights deal. The league got a big boost in their TV money in spite of the commish, not because of her.

This seems all too familiar. Like a government worker, who pulls in a salary they could never get if it wasn't subsidized by tax dollars. Pride usually comes before the fall. The Peter Principle rarely rears it's ugly head for people like this, because there is no requirement for them to turn a profit, or be efficient, or even be smart. Someone else is footing the bill.

The "media" rights deal was just like most bloated media deals that have come along lately. Buoyed by archaic tv & cable networks who still have to fill air time with whatever they can get while paying a hefty premium for it. Unsustainable. In 11 years, do we really think the USA Network will still exist? I'll bet the house it won't.

I believe this is the best solution (aside from ending this farce of a league).

You ever watch a biddy basketball game? The play is so bad that the refs don’t call every foul, travel, violation or the game would never end. I think it’s like that with wnba.

It’s amazing that she can be so clueless

League management has basically taken the stance that they want the league to mimmick the Bad Boy Detroit Pistons from a physicality stance. The refs let the games devolve into cheap shots that are getting players injured and make the product even worse to view.

What a loon.

Clark vs Reese in the WNCAAT was more popular than any WNBA game that didn't include them. Clark v Reese elevated all of women's basketball.

They didn't need the WNBA to get any of their sponsorship deals. Flaujae makes millions in NIL while in college. They choose the WNBA so they didn't have to go over seas.

Why is everyone in WNBA leadership so tone deaf and unlikeable? How can they all be so stupid?

Lol barely anybody knew about Reese until the taunting crap at the end of the game and then when we did find out about her, she is a racist with a below 2.0 gpa... nothing to be proud of.

NBA wasn't stupid.

As soon as Michael Jordan entered the League, traveling calls ceased to exist. You have to give the fans what they want (unless you're the arrogant NFL, sadly justified by viewership) or the WNBA (egregiously unjustified by every metric, they should be pandering to the fans bent over backwards instead of pandering to the woke mob because they don't have to answer for a lifetime in the red).
