He has a torn oblique. Has had this since fall camp at least. Recovery time on this surgery is 3-4 months. They were hoping it would heal up enough to only require a shot and finish healing this week and next. I am not sure if that will be the case but it is obvious he hasnt been himself and this is why. This isnt a guess, it is on good authority or I wouldnt put it out there.

I am a doctor and can confirm that one of the key symptoms of a torn oblique is throwing into triple coverage.

Exactly. I did hear that isnt the same injury as Myle Brennan. I was curious about that as well

This is what his throwing motion looks like tbh. Lacked rotation on his deeper passes. Unnatural movement with his feet to protect the core.

Then Kelly should be fired for playing him.

Im sure tweaking that knee if fall camp didnt help either. Probably reaggravating the oblique by relying more on upper body for throwing power instead of his legs.

ChatGPT:
quote:

A torn oblique for a quarterback is a tricky injury because the obliques are heavily involved in both throwing mechanics and core stability. Recovery depends on the severity (grade) of the tear:

Grade I (mild strain / small tear): 2–4 weeks. With rest, rehab, and gradual return to throwing, some QBs can get back fairly quickly.

Grade II (moderate partial tear): 4–8 weeks. This usually means more limited movement and pain with twisting/throwing, requiring longer rehab before resuming full football activity.

Grade III (complete tear): 8–12+ weeks. In rare severe cases, recovery can extend into the offseason, sometimes requiring surgery.

For a college-level QB, most moderate oblique tears (Grade II) often keep them out about 4–6 weeks, since they need to be pain-free through the entire throwing motion and avoid recurrence (re-injury rates are fairly high if rushed back).

This wasnt just Kelly's decision. Nuss came back for his senior year. I am sure that if he is any kind of healthy, he and his teammates are all for him playing. Kelly may have the last say so, but think of what that does to your team dynamic if your vocal leaders are calling for him to play. Tough spot to be in honestly and MVB look awful in fall camp so I see why the rode with Nuss despite the injury

Have the surgery then, MVB may not be great but at minimum he’s got to be capable of completing dink and dunk passes and handing the ball off.

This version of nuss brings nothing to the table. Really it should have been clear weeks ago this wasn’t going to work and we should have been working on plan B vs. waiting for it to bite us in the arse.

Kelly makes too much to be this stupid

If he is that injured they have no choice but to sit him. With this defense all you need is a mangeable QB and MVB showed his freshman year that he has the potential to at least be that. Ans kelly should have given him some reps in the OM game. That could have been the difference.

If this is true, why would you not rest him for LA Tech and SELU? If they felt rest would help, there’s the opportunity to reduce his load, then get two more weeks during the bye. Again— IF true, the management of this is almost an unexplainable strategy by this staff.

Unless MVB is just God awful I can’t imagine many guys on the team are rooting for this offense to continue the same. You have it a shot but it’s been clear that this isn’t working. It sucks for him if true but you can’t let him hurt the team just because you feel bad for him.

He is a liability and should not be playing. Don’t give a rats butt about his draft stock. He is wasting this year with this great defense. Other schools sit their starting quarterback if they are hurt.

The hurt knee is not helping with throwing off the front foot properly too.

If you think you have the arm strength to hit tight windows healthy, you likely would in the split second of the game. Its just not there when he is injured. Also, he has always thrown some risky balls, but sometimes it worked out because he had so much zip on the throw.

If this is true, shouldn't he shut it down and hope for a medical redshirt?
