Forget everyone else for this discussion please. On any team worth their salt the coach would fire him. Stop saying he can recruit.. that is not a reason to keep the worst OL coach in the SEC.
I don't believe he is protected.

Do it now with the bye week. Write his check and get him out of town.

He'll be the scapegoat, but I really don't know that he is the issue.

His furs on the wall are 4 lineman drafted last year.

You really don't think Davis is part of the issue? We can't block 3 with 5, we can't understand stunts, we can't open holes for running backs....

I don't. He's had good years here and in prior stops before here. He didn't jist forget how to coach. Now it may be a compatability issue between He and Kelly, but i'm not convinced he jist can't coach.

And we couldn’t run the ball with them either.

We haven’t been able to run the ball since he’s been here. Take JD5 out and it’s the same song and dance. His lines are dog shite.

If only we had a head coach who would accept responsibility and do the right thing.

What good would it do to fire him now? He will be let go after the season. Even house didn’t get canned until after the bowl game.

Every job he’s been at the rushing stats were abysmal. He’s part of the problem

He is not doing his job, not earning his paycheck, ..People are fired everyday for those two reasons alone.
Changes must be made now to the OLine performance if we want to save our season.

The running and protection problems come from play calling issues. This was true even in the Les Miles years.

I think LSU has had a fair number of tells that they never clean up. Hell, half the time you can guess the play because of the personnel we sub in.

ETA: It is funny how Les would run into stacked boxes all game. Under Kelly we are passing when the other team drops 8 guys into coverage.

It's rare an assistant coach gets fired during season unless he does something really stupid.

Please list teams worth their salt that have fired their offensive line coach this early in the season.

It would help some of us who believe we draw rational conclusions understand what basis you have for this statement. Without that information, I can probably just put you in the category of a typical ranter making hyperbolic statements because you love the drama of it.

For sake of argument... it might not be his fault.

No, seriously. Some talking head remarked that LSU's line does not fire off the ball. They don't even try to. They stand up and take a step back, even on runs.
This appears to be scheme-oriented. We are not trying to be a power running team, we are trying to be a spread offense in the shotgun, mostly passes but with some runs sprinkled in to slow the defense. The line is trying to bog the defense down and allow a mobile QB to have a couple seconds to look downfield, while maybe drifting towards a seam to run. The running scheme seems to bog the D line down, and allow a quick back to either hit a seam, or take it outside and outrun the linebackers. There should be 2 linebackers, and the secondary should be deep addressing our WRs downfield.
This worked GREAT with Daniels, he could easily escape the swamped linemen and either pass, or run free for a dozen yds.

Nussmeier can't run this scheme- he's too slow and indecisive on the runs, and when he looks downfield he takes too much time deciding if he can push it deeper. It has to be quick hitting, and the occasional shot; not look for shots on a third of your dropbacks. You need a rhythm and he doesn't fit it.

I suspect if things remain the same next year, Van Buren will look a lot smoother, because he seems to fit the style better. Watching his highlights, and looking at his series against (yes, I know) Southeastern, he's comfortable with this type of scheme, and thus the line will appear more effective.

Nussmeier first needs to get healthy, and then he should be running a power scheme taking deep shots on play-action. If they don't change the scheme he will drown.

TL, DR version- Davis is doing what they are asking him to do.

LSUSkip.........Please don't post on here if you have been SKIPPING your Anti-Psychotic medication!

Yes, Brad "Sylvester" Davis IS the MAIN issue.

Offensive Pennywise the Clown 2.0 (Joe Sloan) is close behind, but a solid #2 behind Sylvester.........
