Really cheap flights from NOLA to Seattle in December. Is it worth going there during that time of year? Maybe early December?

I think there's some good christmas markets/lights viewing in the area. Do you ski? The mountains should be open by then (Crystal, Stevens) so could do a day trip up there. Boeing museum is cool.

It will be rainy and cold compared to Nola (30s-50s), but would be a decent trip. I'd recommend it if you like the cheap flight prices.

I’ve been there then. The heavy layer of shroud is usually very thick then. Some cool day trips from there. Victoria,Olympic NP. Don’t expect to get up the Mt though. All in all not ideal time to visit.

If it’s cheap and you don’t have anything else going on, do it! I love going places at off peak times.

There's a cool Christmas market in the city that will be going on during that time. You could check out Pike Place Market if you've never been. As others suggested you could also go skiing.

I would suggest spending a day or two in Leavenworth. 2 hour drive from Seattle. It is really magical that time of year.

Seattle, in Dec sunrise a little before 8am and sunset about 4:15pm. Since its overcast and raining there isn't much light when the sun isn't up. Restaurants and museums in the city are a better bet than the mountains where snow closures might limit what's available in one of those 8 hour days.

I always got a window seat on the left side of the plane the morning I'd leave. Sunrise over the mountains while eating rubbery eggs, it was great!

You can see 3 mountain tops as we depart Portland.

Should have been 4 (St. Helens) if you had panned slightly to the left.

There are some pics from that takeoff right before that shot that show a mountain with its top blown off..I assume that is Mt St Helen's It would be slightly to the west of that..right? ETA - this one?

My niece came out for a visit the week before Christmas in 2023 and we had sunny/cold weather with lots of fog. You should expect and plan for cloudy & cold or cloudy & rainy, tho.

The Christmas Market at the Seattle Center was OK, but not as cool as the European ones I have seen. $20 just to get in was dumb.

All in all, there are enough cool things to do around here (another example is a Christmas cruise on the Sound or Lake Washington) or within a reasonable driving distance that make a mid- to late-December visit worthwhile.

Yes!

On the original shot, from east to west, it's:

Hood
Adams
Rainier

(and St. Helens, off-camera)

Not a great time to visit. But like other have mentioned, Leavenworth is really cool and there's some skiing available if you're into that. If you're into snowshowing, there's some awesome spots at Paradise at Mt Rainier and also up to Artist Point at Mt Baker. The weather up in the mountains can be pretty extreme though. There's some lowland hikes open pretty much year round like Wallace Falls and Rattlesnake Ledge, you just might want to bring spikes. In the lowlands, it will likely be cold, gray, and rainy. Bellevue Square does Snowflake Lane every day in December up to Christmas which can be a good time. There's things like the Zoo Lights at Point Defiance Zoo as well. No better place to visit in August, but it would be pretty far down my list in December.

It is very dark and depressing here in Seattle between November and March. It’s not as cold as the Northeast or Midwest, but damp and chilly. Very depressing.

If you live there, sure. But if you’re just going for a long weekend or so, I don’t think depression would factor into the decision of visiting or not.

I went in 2022 in December when Auburn played UW. Only 8 hours of daylight like others have said so I went hard from 8:00-4:00. Weather was cold and dreary, but one week of it didn't depress me.

This Hiking Experience was fun: LINK. The host drives everyone out in a passenger van, and you hike to Twin Falls and then visit the town of Snoqualmie and the falls there. The hike is described as beginner, but there are some switchbacks so I'd say it was intermediate.

If you've never been to Seattle, you can still do all the touristy things. Space Needle, Pike Place Market, riding a boat on Puget Sound, Ivar's Fish and Chips, touring UW and the U District.

I also did the food tasting at Pike Place Market and also the Underground Donut Tour. I liked the light rail system. Just bundle up with layers, gloves, and even something rain resistant, and you should be fine. I'd do it again and recommend to anyone.

Just back from 10 days Seattle area. It's been an unusually sunny and dry fall. Maybe that will extend to Dec.

I was there a few weeks ago, it was hot and sunny the entire 4 days. I was kind of disappointed to be honest. I bought rain gear and warm clothes to walk Hoh rainforest and I ended up basically shirtless by the end of the trail.

You should visit again during the summer. But I would like to see what it is like during the cold and short winter days.
The people who live there say it is a depressing time.
