My Ole Miss observations

Take it for what it’s worth, which probably isn’t much.
Chambliss is really good. He is a good passer, and a very good runner. He gets out of the pocket quickly, and when he decides to run, he’s very decisive and kicks into another gear.
Their D Line is not good. They have good edges, but their interior D Line gets pushed around, and they look slow. If LSU can’t run on them, they won’t be able to run on anyone. Their secondary leaves a lot of open spots downfield.
In order for Ole Miss to win, they are going to have to have a Jayden Daniels like performance from Chambliss. If our offense can control the clock and win the field position battle, I feel really good about this game.
Ole Miss has a really good field goal kicker. Keeping them out of FG range will be important. I feel like Zavion is due to return a punt for a TD, so I’m going to go ahead and call it. I think the LSU offense will execute well this week, and we win 35-17.

I believe that Chambliss is going to give the Tiger D trouble but will be contained. The Tiger running game gets its act together and controls the game tempo. This one will be fairly low scoring LSU 24-17.

I can see Gooden having a huge impact on this game. maybe not so much statistically per the norm, but penetrating and/or getting doubled to free up the dogs. just gotta make sure we contain on the edges.

I think the key in this game for us is Time of Possession. The longer you give Lane the ball eventually he’s going to figure out a way to score. We need to find a run play that works for us and keep going back to it. Attack the middle of the field. We are more talented than them. Full stop. Wear them down.

They have yet to play any kind of legit defense.

hopefully LSU comes out under center a bit and tests this out. no zone blocking. just go forward. this is what that oline of LSU needs to do.

agreed. he has been close multiple times.

Chambliss is good, but I think perk and the weeks brothers run him down sideline to sideline and keep him in check.
LSU’s Offense will win the battle enough times to score.
I’ve been saying ol miss gets 2 scores, 3 if we give them a short field.
And LSU wins a 28-14 type game.
If they pick up a TD via the return game, I’ll take 35-17, in good with that!
BUT!
Just win! Don’t care about score, just win!

I think it will be mostly Perkins spying. Imo Weeks brothers effectiveness is actually reduced sideline to sideline. They will be more tasked with stopping Kewan Lacy.

quote:we are so good in zone or man I just don’t see it. Haulcy, Weeks, Perkins.
believe that Chambliss is going to give the Tiger D trouble
Not to mention the speed of Gooden.
I just feel abnormally confident that Chambliss will be forced to throw it, there was a reason he was at a D2 school.

Couple thoughts. I've watched a lot of discussion and breakdowns on the game.
-LSU hasn't won in Oxford since Burrow was QB
-Ole Miss is dead last in rush D and we are last in rush O in the SEC
-Chambliss has done well passing, but has had minimal pressure and against poor coverage. He has a nice touch on passes, but an average at best arm
-Playing gap sound is key to negate his running. Ole Miss averages 200+ a game running. That's their strength. We are a vastly improved run defense and need to play the run and let the DB stay in man.
-Defensively Ole miss safety play is poor and we need to attack the middle of the D
-Most of the national media is breaking towards Ole Miss
-LSU media seems much less impressed with Ole Miss. Even the more negative ones. Despite our known weaknesses they sound confident LSU will do well
-I was less confident earlier in the week, but I'm much more optimistic now. I just wish Durham was 100%.

No reaosn we should be held below 30 with a healthy nuss . They flat out don’t have the dudes to guard our wr room and their d line is awful even we should be able to run on them

LSU offense has to take advantage of the Ole Miss safeties.

Watching the Tulane highlights, the thing that stuck out most to me was how slow Tulane looked. I'm hoping that's a symptom of SEC v. AAC and not Ole Miss having great team speed.
If we (1) don't get fooled on double moves; and (2) contain Chambliss, we win this game going away. A ton of their explosive plays are double moves with tight window throws. Those windows won't exist against LSU and this secondary. I would love Chambliss to try and test Pickett/Delane/Woodland in 1 on 1 situations like he did against Tulane and Arkansas.

quote:With Whit, I'd disagree. He has good-great sideline to sideline speed for an ILB. West, though, is much better between the tackles. I'd be concerned if we were relying on his speed to stop big plays on the outside on 3rd down. This game comes down to Perk/Whit containing Chambliss.

If they're able to, I don't see him being able to carve up our DBs like he did the last 2 weeks.

Thot stood out to me watching the Tulane game as well. They looked slow defensively at every level. Their corners were playing 10 plus yards off and still getting ran by. Our defense has a diff level of athleticism and speed Tulane was grossly overhyped.
If Chambliss gives our dbs the same 50/50 balls I think we will come down with a couple of picks I’m excited for our corners this game their gonna get a lot of opportunities to make plays.
I hope baker comes out with Pickett Woodland and Delane on the field at the same time. Have woodland move inside to cover Cayden Lee with Pickett /Delane clamping the outside .

quote:I agree. We have to be careful and disguise things well. I don't think their receivers are man beaters, but Lane can absolutely scheme up man beaters.
If we can play man well, their QB will be on his back most of the game.
Those deep shots will not work on this secondary. They haven't worked once in 4 games. Their TE isn't mobile enough to be a true mismatch from a speed prospective, and Haulcey/Perk are plenty strong enough to guard him from a size prospective, whereas Spears won't get beat on height.
After doing a little more digging, I think it's also imperative that Cooley/Spears plays disciplined on Saturday, which they have thus far. Like I said, Lane will try and create mismatches and Chambliss will try and take shots. Wouldn't be surprised if we get 2 picks from the safety position.

quote:It was wild. There was a shot play to the TE in the 4th quarter and he's a big ole boy. He does not move well. Tulane defenders looked like they were stuck in mud trying to get to him.

quote:Yeah, like I said in a different post, he won't be able to take those hole shots he took against Tulane. Cooley/Haulcey/Spears are much faster, more instinctual, and just generally better than anything he's faced thus far. I kind of hope Baker baits him with a ton of cover 2 and just let the safeties do their thing.

quote:Love this as well. No one has even been able to test Pickett on a shot play this year. You probably need at least 3 yards of separation with his length.

They may bust a run or 2, but I don’t see them being able to run the ball on us consistently. Nobody has. That’s not just because of the DL getting penetration and the LBs cleaning up, it’s guys like Haulcy, Cooley, and Woodland coming up and making plays in the running game. And the whole defense is great at tackling, the 1st guys almost always never miss. And if they do, they at least hold them up or slow them down, allowing for other guys to come clean up/finish off. The defense is super fast, and they all fly to the ball. They are great at team tackling.
So I think Chambliss is 2nd and 3rd and longs most of the day, and Baker will have some shite for him he’s not only never seen before, but can’t even comprehend. We’re gonna bait him into throwing a couple picks and probably a sack/fumble or 2. I think we have 3-4 turnovers, and a couple will be late when Ole Miss is down and pressing. It will be something like 20-10 going into the 4th, and a couple late turnovers will turn into points and a 27-10, 30-13 type final score.
Only thing that keeps Ole Miss in it is if we don’t set the edge and allow Chambliss to make some plays with his legs outside of the pocket (but we’ve been great at being disciplined and setting the edge, sometimes with our DEs, but also with LBs and DTs). Or if for whatever reason, our DBs get beat consistently in man. Which again, they haven’t yet. No reason to believe that will magically happen starting Saturday.
On offense, we need probably won’t be able to run the ball, so I expect long drives with a lot of short passes. We somehow had a 13 play 45 yard drive Saturday. That’s insane. Nuss just needs to take what they give him and be willing to punt and not press into turning the ball over, and we’ll eventually break a few with Brown and/or Anderson.
Tl;dr—turnovers will be the key, and I trust our defense and 5th-year QB to win that battle significantly.

like this will not work against LSU. I pray they try and take these shots against this defensive backfield. (7:32 time stamp if it doesn't load properly).
ETA: I know that's cover 1, but the point still remains.
ETA 2: Another thing, Tulane did a horrible job of disguising coverage. I could guess with pretty good accuracy what they'd be in pre snap, and I haven't played a down of organized football in 12 years
