If there was ever a week to run the QB...

it would be against this Ole Miss defense.
Removing sacks, Kentucky's QBs combined for 5 carries and 43 yards, Taylen Green ran it 14 times for 115 yards and a score (maybe not realistic for us lol), and Tulane's QBs combined for 14 carries and 61 yards. Retzlaff's legs were Tulane's only offense really. It's worth noting that Ole Miss recorded no sacks against Arkansas or Tulane and had 3 at Kentucky.
Nuss is nowhere close to the runner that Taylen Green is, but it's very clear that Ole Miss does not want to defend a QB that's willing to tuck it and run. Because asking Nuss to run is a beaten horse, the wildcat package with Ju'Juan that was talked about in August would make a lot of sense to finally make an appearance this week.

Nuss took off and ran for a first down last weekend. He also ran for a first down on a designed QB run against Clemson. I can't claim to have watched the entirety of all the other referenced games, but I imagine the threat of the QB to run and throw is what made those QBs effective runners. I don't think Johnson is going to instill that same fear in the defense, and they'll just stack the box to stop the run.

You ever watched our offensive line?

All of those QB's mentioned are threats to pass first. Johnson isn't, and LSU wouldn't block the wildcat well any way.
The impact of Nuss not being a runner is totally overblown. There is a path for this offense to be very good despite that aspect not being a part of it. Teams had good offenses for years without a running QB. LSU just needs an OC to find it. LSU has slot WRs who are very though covers in man-to-man. They have TEs who can make plays. They have solid RBs...in the right scheme, and they have an QB who can make all of the throws.

Put Van Buren in on a 3rd or 4th and inches while ole miss will think QB run let him toss to a receiver running down field

Yes, we've beaten this dead horse. Nuss needs to recognize to run it when its there instead of trying to force the pass. If he runs it over 5 times and picks up a few first downs, then this offense will explode.

Any defense we play has minimal to zero concern with a running game that essential is non-existent and a pathetic joke.

quote:That's dramatic. Adjusting for the 1 sack and 2 kneel-downs, we ran for 122 yards on 4.4 yards per attempt at Clemson, which is acceptable. That same level of play will result in more yards against worse defenses.

I can promise you that there will be at least 1 time where Nuss will pull it and run. When we get into the redzone or 1st and goal I would do a zone read and let Nuss see what that end does, if he crashes on the back then he will coast into the endzone.
But it might also happen similar to Clemson where he just gets a key first down on a drive. Don't expect it to be very often but expect at least once he pulls it. They practiced it a lot around the 10 yd line heading into Week 1 so thats what tells me that would be when it happens. But we will see.

What is this fanbase's obsession with a running quarterback?
Did this all start with JD5?

The OL has been opening holes. The RB's haven't been hitting the holes. Johnson hit the holes last game and was our best runner. They even brought it up on tv.

No it started with Matt Mauck. He was injured on the run, and fans bitched for a couple decades about the foolishness of putting the QB in jeopardy.

quote:Wouldn't say that it started with Jayden. There hasn't been a national champion with non-running threat QB since Bama 2020 and Bama 2015 before that. All other champs have had a capable runner at QB. It's an important factor in college football.

If he has a “torso” injury, that could render running problematic.

Have you not been watching the last couple of years. Nuss is not going to run. We all have to accept that.

It seemed like he ran more last week than he did the entire 2024 season
He still doesn’t do it enough but he’s definitely not the same guy
