I didn’t know this.
I knew that Randy Johnson was a credentialed NFL photographer though.

I would guess 99.9% of the world’s population didn’t know that.

Seems like a lot of people found this out in April, but no you aren’t the only one

Yep just you. Everyone else knew this major national news ages ago.

Griffey worked the Masters last spring, that's why I found out

So, does he show up for whatever events he wants, or is he under contract with someone?

Fun fact: Cal Raleigh just broke The Kid's franchise single-season HR record.

His photos are as flawless as his swing.

Pretty sure Randy Johnson is a professional photographer too

Indeed.
First time I saw him doing it was when one of his sons was playing football at Arizona. Apparently he started it when he was playing baseball because it was a hobby that wouldn’t jeopardize his contract/career. And then he got into the sports piece when his kids started playing sports and started getting officially credentialed.

You have to be pretty networked or with a publication to get in on those types of events. In the case of the Masters, they reached out to him.

When a friend in Orlando with a connection to the Masters learned that Griffey had also picked up golf, he reached out to Augusta National, who quickly extended The Kid a job offer. It was the most enticing job opportunity of Griffey’s post-playing life, but he paused before accepting it.
“When you hear you’re going to shoot at the Masters, you want to say yes real quick,” he said. “But then you’re like, ohhh, I’m gonna need to work on some things.”

Tony Mandarich (The Incredible Bust) has been a professional photographer for 20+ years now as well.
Seems like an interesting way to have a life after sports and still stay close to them.

That’s a damn good way to get into the Masters. I wonder how exclusive photography badges are?
