Former Alabama QB A.J. McCarron eyeing run for public office

Perhaps best known as the starting quarterback for two of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide's national championship teams, Mobile native and St. Paul's Episcopal graduate A.J. McCarron is said to be considering a run for public office.
Sources tell 1819 News that McCarron had considered a bid for U.S. Senate but may opt for a run for lieutenant governor, given a desire to remain close to home in Alabama.
McCarron has been the subject of public polling, as he and others are apparently testing the waters for his possible bid. Since his departure from the St. Louis Battlehawks roster in 2024, the final stop in his decade-long professional football career, McCarron has taken a role as an online football commentator.
However, he has also been a vocal supporter of Mobile mayoral hopeful Spiro Cheriogotis, who faces State Rep. Barbara Drummond (D-Mobile) in Tuesday's runoff election.
McCarron and his future wife Katherine Webb had also won the notice of Donald Trump in 2013 on the heels of the Tide's 42-14 national championship over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
