If you need a quick pick-me-up this always puts a smile on my face. The Gong Show was a real treat in my childhood:

Also, I wonder how much coke did Chuck Barris do?

I watched it as a kid but didn't "get" it. I think I was expecting a serious game show.

That show was hilarious. It was either Gong Show or Make Me Laugh that had a contestant with a top hat that had a door in the front and something came out and chased something around the hat. Cracked me up as a kid.

Yes, and one performance was just a coat rack on a rope for some reason. Maybe Gene had passed and they wanted to do the schtick one more time.

I only knew about GGtDM because my dad's name is Gene and people used to call him that all the time when I was a kid.

That clip was annoying in that they kept cutting away from GGtDM every half a second to go back the host. I don't think they ever showed him for more than 1-2 seconds at a time.

Every time I meet a guy named "Chuck" I'll say "Chuckie, Chuckie Chuckie" as the "Unknow Comic" used to call Barris

Watched it when it aired. Weird, risque show. Remember drunk and/or coked up celebrity judges. And Chuck…he was out of it most of the times.

Money:

My mom said when I was about 3 years old I’d sit in front of the TV watching the Gong show and I would start shouting, Gong him! Gong him!

Adolescent me used to get horny over Jaye P. Morgan. I'm pretty sure she flashed her tits on an episode

I always wondered which had more cocaine backstage. The Gong Show in the 70’s or a Motley Crue concert in the 80’s.

I have proposed for years reviving the Gong show (in the age of social media and "content creators") would be fricking epic.

*ETA: this also reminds me that Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, while somewhat of a mess (it was George Clooney's directorial debut, after all), is a must-see movie.

That was actually "The Gong Show Movie." And, yes, they were spectacular.

I loved the “Unknown Comic”. I would do the routine at home. I thought I was hilarious!

Thanks for the correction. Can't always trust the innerwebs.
