Early versions of the Jim Croce 1973 smash hit 'Bad bad Leroy Brown' included the line "meaner than a concentration camp dog"

But Croce decided it was unpleasant to the ear.
And also it was offensive to jews, gypsies and homosexuals.. little did it matter, Croce would be dead within the year.

Damn...as a kid my very first 45 record was in 1974 when I was only 7 and it was Bad Bad Leroy Brown. Can't remember what was on side B. Yellow label is all I remember. Leroy Brown was a HUGE hit back then.

The guy that performed alongside him on acoustic guitar (Maury Muehleisen) was an insanely gifted player.

Oh Jesus, I just realized the 20th is a cursed day of the month.
October 20, 1977.
Another day when the music died.

Yes he was!!

ETA: Also, Muehleisen didn't pick up a guitar til he was 17y/o. He died at 24y/o. So, in 7 years he was playing like that !. When you think about it, that's just insane. Incredibly gifted guitarist.

Man I have no clue why all those rock stars in the 70s flew those little planes all over the South. It’s seems like a dozen of them crashed and killed everywhere. Several in Mississippi I know

Croce had said in interviews not long before the crash that he was tired and needed a break because the road was hard, and he had a fairly young child at home.

Guys like Croce hustled hard back then, doing shows in back to back nights anywhere they could get a gig. The fact that so many of them lost their lives in plane crashes is mind-numbing.

Just imagine if he wouldn't have died just how many songs he would have written and performed by now.

One of my favorite JC songs.

Seriously though. How in the hell was he only 30? In what you linked he looks at least 60.
