Reading r/HIB for some laughs, and it seems many are visiting back home. Apparently this is a popular time of year for them so save up their PTO and use it to go home.

The EO directly addresses H1Bs here already who leave the country

So now they are all rushing to get back to the USA before the new EO kicks in

quote:

Trump’s proclamation/EO on imposing a $100,000 fee / restriction for H-1B specialty occupation entry takes effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on September 21, 2025

Uh oh...

BTW, the language about leaving the country is also going to shut down H1B mills where people take H1B jobs and never actually live in the USA, which is a fraud that apparently is happening by both the companies and recipients.

I don’t even think that $100,000 will be enough

There needs to be an actual cap on how many street shitters can use the H1B system. Or it needs to be outright abolished.

Shows how bad the problem had gotten.

Bout time someone stood up to big tech and puts a stop to the h1b abuse.

Then $4500 sounds like a good deal.

There are almost 500k applications per year.

Thats 50 billion.

Our deficit is 250 billion...

Make it 250k per application...

Of course we know the number of applicants will drop drastically... but thats the point.

I imagine this will slow down the applications because the fee is nonrefundable if the application is denied

Booking any last minute flight (day before/day of) to fly across the world is usually $$$ as all the cheap inventory is long gone. Could the visa stuff be a factor for the higher than normal prices? Yeah. Is it the only factor? My guess is no.

100k is not enough. Companies will pay this and still save money. If companies replaces 120k American with a 45k Indian in a five year contract the company still saves money.

The solution is American companies must pay 130% of the State or city average for that job.

This way if a company needs to hire a foreigner because they can’t find an American they can but they won’t save money.

That’s one of the best ethnic slurs I’ve ever heard.

Google, Amazon, and Microsoft have all sent out emails to their H1Bs telling them to either get back before the deadline or if they can't, then stay put.

That is directly from the r/H1B board

If you think the high prices aren't from Habibs trying to get back before tomorrow night you are delusional.

Everyone understands last-minute pricing but the opposite is also true, meaning if a flight isn't fully booked, they will lower prices last minute to fill the last few seats.

No doubt there is a rush by many trying to get back. You can go to Reddit and read the panic for yourself.

Not anymore. They also raised the salary floor from $60K to $150K

This seemed crazy high and I just searched and found a bunch in the $800-$900 range, which is about what I'd expect for next day international flights

I admit I didn't search. I just saw it on the r/h1b reddit that I was browsing, reading the meltdowns from the people who wipe their arse with their bare hands

I doubt it. But maybe the H1B applicant will pay it if that’s possible. It would be tough for a company to pay it because of the chances the employee doesn’t pan out. I think this is a good solution that takes the shine off of H1B for a lot of companies but leaves it in place for important roles and talent.

Let’s see it play out. In a year we’ll have a lot of data to analyze.

I'll be the first to admit I don't know the normal pricing for India to USA. Quick look at Google flights shows flights for tomorrow around $535 to NYC so you're likely right. I had no idea about the tech company emails either

That is not as common anymore at least for domestic US. Usually fares go up at the 2 week in period. The big 3 would rather sell one full fare Y fare to a last minute business traveler than 2 cheaper V fares to leisure travelers. All this to say airfare can be complicated

No, they have the "Overreaching district judge gap" in the enforcement.

We should run a contest where everybody pitches in and guesses which of the 5 go to districts it will be.

The minimum salary is $150k. So $250k total. Better be highly qualified and not some ChatGPT generated resume.
