Revisiting the Punting vs Auburn 2010

Chadwick's efforts recall another stellar game of punting and STs.
Vs Auburn in 2010, Derek Helton and Josh Jasper (GOAT) punted 6 times with an average of 50.2 yds/punt. Auburn's starting field position from these was their own:
1
9
20 (touchback - how'd this get in here?)
2
1
10
The avg Auburn's starting field position after our six punts was their own 7 yd line.

2010 LSU was a Cam Newton away from playing for and most likely winning a national championship against an Oregon team that would’ve never faced a defense like that.
Similar to 2012. What could’ve been without a handful of plays not going our way.

This is a random arse throwback but thats some tip top special teams play. Not to derail this thread, but one often overlooked and underappreciated aspect of miles tenure was the typically stellar special teams play.

That's what happens when you have the best gunner duo in LSU history (Mathieu and Ron Brooks)

That is an interesting stat line…
But who on earth is spending a Friday evening thinking of punting stats from a game 15 years ago??? A game LSU lost at that.
That seems very unhealthy

You may be high, but like the way you think.

we kept Cam under 100 yards passing
they kept us under 120
i can't believe they ran for 400+

The outstanding Helton punting kept LSU in a game they were otherwise dominated. Auburn outgained the Tigers 526-243, and rushed for a plug-ugly 440 on the Plains, one of the worst efforts along the sward ever for an LSU defense.

Yeah, but that same team needed a bad Tennessee team having 13 guys on the field to avoid getting beat at home, a lucky bounce on a questionable fake field goal call against Florida, a goalline stand against UNC, a last minute touchdown against a bad Ole Miss team, and got beat by 2 scores by Arkansas. That was not a championship caliber team by any measure, though they looked that way in the Cotton Bowl.

quote:a perfect descriptor for why there was such a love/hate relationship with Less Miles. one week the team would look championship caliber, and the next week would look like they didn’t even understand the game of football.

2010 Auburn game was the best punting I’ve ever seen from an LSU team.

a goalline stand against UNC,
Yeah, that UNC team had suspended like 13 players before that game and still we had to have the good fortune of them dropping the go ahead TD at the end to beat them. Agreed don't make our 2010 team out to be a championship caliber team.

Yea LSU could have easily been 7-5 that season instead of 10-2. They capitalized mightily on good luck. They did decisively beat an Aggie team in the Cotton Bowl, an Aggie team who fired their coach the next season.
The finishes that season vs. North Carolina and Tennessee seemed to foretell the end of the Miles regime. He just got lucky. Anybody who actually watched the 2010 season knows the Tigers were far from "championship calibre."

Chadwick's game last week was very, very good. I recalled we punted well vs Auburn in '10 and went back to see how well (and see in the OP).
For all I know, it may have been the greatest display of punting in CFB history and will largely get overlooked and forgotten because of how the game turned out.
