Clear this Kimmel thing up for me

I've read conflicting stories on this. No love loss for Kimmel....can't stand that guy.
-I saw initially that Nexstar and Sinclair told ABC that they were not running Kimmel.
-Then I started seeing that Sinclair or whoever was buying/merging with another media group and that the FCC was using that approval leverage to pressure them into dropping Kimmel.
Is the latter true or is it official that this happened?
If the affiliates did this on their own and said we are tired of losing money on Kimmel and his politics is costing us money and viewers, then I'm all fine with that. But if the FCC is using their leverage in approving mergers to pressure affiliates into removing someone from air.....that is opening a can of worms and I don't agree with that.
Granted I understand that the left has done it to us, especially during covid and would love to take it out on them.

Easy enough: Kimmel was going to be cancelled next year for underperforming - I suppose a retooling of the show was possible, but I doubt that would have been acceptable to everyone.
Disney pulls the trigger now, with the excuse provided by the tragedy, the affiliates, the outrage, etc., and they can imply it was because of political pressure.
Kimmel pretends to be a martyr (whereas Charlie is actually a martyr).
It isn't any more complicated than this. In fact, I think it was deliberate on Kimmel's part to force the issue. It is possibly even in cooperation with Disney brass behind the scenes (but I can't say that for certain).

Easy enough to impugn the motives of a company without any real evidence.
Jimmy said a stupid, heartless and false statement. On the heels of a national tragic event, when emotions are still very raw. And being made worse by those on the Left already.
An attempt to calm things down was made, and instead, Jimmy doubled down. His employers deemed Jimmy's position, his mindset as to be unhelpful and counter productive to the moment at hand.
His 'apology' would have been to agitate the Right even more. The people in charge of programming, in charge of the network, and even ultimately Disney made an agreement. Jimmy wasn't getting it. Intended to make things worse, not better, so he had to go.
Those pretending to not 'get it' are insincere or just too lazy to follow the story.

So Jimmy Kimmel decided to do what the folks on the left in media do. He decided to ignore the truth, double down and blame conservatives.
All this decrying a subject that 90% of the country believes as fact.
Jimmy Kimmel became a financial liability to the folks that pay the bills.

if the left ran the world, Jimmy Kimmel would never have been taken off the air, Dylan Mulvaney would still be Bud Light’s spokesman , Cracker Barrel would be indistinguishable from McDonald’s or Ikea, Gillette would have a full line of trans shavers, exclusive for a woman-man’s face, and Dylan Thomas would still have his women’s swimming medals.

quote:Kimmel broke FCC rules regarding lies about an open criminal investigation. Kimmel getting yanked had zero to do with FCC pressure. But if it had been d/t FCC actions, the pressure would have been justified.
But if the FCC is using their leverage in approving mergers to pressure affiliates into removing someone from air.....

His ratings were down like 50% in August.

Your boss tells you to change.
You tell your boss to frick off.
Your boss tells you to hit the road.

You can't go to work and say whatever the hell you want and not expect to be fired? I hope I cleared it up.

Summary:
FCC chief makes a statement on a podcast that may or may not be a threat, regardless of legitimacy, probably thinking he will look good to his side and not really planning on following through. I don’t believe he had any idea of what would follow.
ABC affiliates followed by ABC see said statement and thank their lucky stars for the gift they just received, which is basically a get out of jail free card in public relations, and pounce.
FCC and the right now look like the bad guys because an idiot FCC chief tried to sound like a bad arse on a podcast.
