Mining/Minerals Stocks Discussion

Starting a thread about mining stocks.
My interest was piqued recently when I got a tip about NAK (Northern Dynasty) and it shot up. I bought in at 1.54 and it shot up to 2.14 only to come down the next day down to ~.70. Saw it crashing and sold at a loss at 1.32.
This and other stocks that you want to enter with more shares than you can get in with other higher value stocks, can be discussed here. Or any mining stock that you want to talk about.
For me, Of interest at the moment are:
CPFXF (Copper Fox)
HDRSF (Highland Copper)
URG (UR Energy) -though might be better on a uranium thread
NAK(Northern Dynasty) -they got in a bit of trouble. Waiting for some legal news on their Pebble in early 2026

Highland Copper gets US EXIM interest for potential $250 million financing
Reuters 2025-09-16T08:32:00-04:00
Sept 16 (Reuters) - Highland Copper (HDRSF.NaE) said on Tuesday it received a non-binding letter from the U.S. Export-Import Bank (EXIM) for potential $250 million financing to develop its Copperwood project in Michigan.
The indication of interest, issued under EXIM's "Make More in America" initiative, could cover a substantial portion of Copperwood's estimated $400 million capital cost, the company said.
Copperwood is among the few U.S. copper projects with all major permits in place and a completed feasibility study, it added.
Highland said the letter is not a financing commitment.
A formal application, due diligence and approvals would be required before EXIM could make a final decision. The agency outlined a potential 11-year repayment term.
In March, U.S. President Donald Trump invoked emergency powers to accelerate domestic production of critical minerals.
The executive order directed federal agencies, including EXIM, to expedite permitting, funding and supply agreements for critical minerals including rare earths.

I’ve made well over a 100% on $RITE.
But it’s an OTC stock and has already run a lot, so not sure I’d recommend it. But it’s been good to me.

I've invested in many mining stocks over the decades with a similar story. Buy in ,,, stock begins a steep run ... then falters as the investors come crashing back to earth. I found that it was just too time consuming to keep up with all the financials and projections .... there's a ton of data to weed through before investing in an individual mining operation. I've also invested in royalty steams in a couple of companies, but its an extremely difficult business to keep current on ....Just my respectful opinion.
Just invest in GDXJ or similar. It's a tricky business, mainly because of key-man personnel that can change the course of a mine's profitability overnight. The level of experiential knowledge these key-people have is remarkable. GDXJ keeps track of all that stuff in a timely manner. I took a modest position in GDXJ back in March .... heavier position in June .... I've been in GDX, PHYS much longer.
The only individual mining stock I'm currently holding is Newmont (NEM) .... which was my entry in the Money Board equity ticker contest back in January. I bought in at $38 in Jan and it's currently around $78.
This is still a good time to invest in metals, I think. Regulations are rolling back in the US, energy prices are low and stable ... which addresses a vital mining expense. I strongly believe we are still in the early stages of the gold bull ... so metals miners are trending upward.
I try to focus on tickers that primarily operate mines in North America ... a much safer operating environment than in most areas of the world.
good fortunes to all ...

I like the big guys - RIO, BHP, FCX, and it feels like the nuclear power resistance is finally crumbling, so CCJ and UUUU.
The first three pay a dividend, which is a nice addition. I should also note that I like to sell covered calls on all of them, which has generated a nice return. Without the CC's, their performance becomes a long term play,
There is a looming copper shortage, no matter which scenario you pick for electrification and the rise of AI. Even the most conservative electrification of transportation and renewable energy conversion have around a 30% shortage of global copper production by the early 2030's, and those projections did not consider AI, data centers, and all the extra power - and therefore copper - they will consume. The most conservative scenarios consider BEV market share to only creep up, with larger increases in HEV and PHEV, which is about where we are looking like we are headed.
While there is plenty of copper out there, the shortage will be driven by mining timing. From the day you fire up the first track hoe until you hit actual production with a copper mine is a 15-20 year timeline, so its sort of the "demographics is destiny" argument applied to metal. What we have today and in the pipeline for copper mining capability will fall seriously behind global demand within five years.

I have VALE and it’s hard to beat the 9% dividend. The problem with the big mining stocks is they’re all foreign ADRs.

I did well with PICK. Sold at a nice profit. I lost money on NAK in the past. Sold it all when Biden (supposedly) won in 2020 because that killed the possibility of Pebble. Not sure I want to bet on that horse again.
My biggest profit was UUUU I sold last month. Still in on some uranium stocks but the run up on UUUU was too big to pass up.

After doing a bit of research I'm now in the following names:
BVN - Peruvian precious metals
CDE - Canadian gold
FSM - Canadian gold/silver
TGB - Canadian copper
UAMY - ignot company that just got a US govt contract.
Anyone see any red flags?

I’m embarrassed to say this, but I’ve been asking ChatGPT it it has seen any problems with the companies m invested in.
I gave it a list of 17 tickers. I named the list, “the list”.
I ask it every day to check any negative or positive news on the list.
Obviously it tells me I’m in high risk for all of these tickers. They are all specs.
Sometimes there is movement news or no news at all.

I did run a screener.
All of these companies are small cap with high volumes traded and quite profitable. They are not speculative, but more value plays.
However, that doesn't mean they aren't near all time highs.
Many of them are.

Andean Precious Metals Corp - ANPMF
Watched it rise 200% (now up 500% on the year) but still seems to have some run. I am sure I am calling the top on it. Just sticking a toe in - nothing more

Hit hard today due to a mud slide in Indonesia.
Is this a buying opportunity??
