Show creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker explained on Wednesday, hours before the episode was set to air, that they didn't finish it in time and that "this one's on us." They thanked both the network and fans for "being so understanding."

“Apparently when you do everything at the last minute, sometimes you don’t get it done,” they said in a statement posted to Instagram, announcing that the episode was postponed.

The episode is now set to broadcast next week, on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

Is this them just not getting it done in time or does it have to do with Charlie Kirk? I do think most would be surprised if the event is not somehow addressed in the next episode.

There will also be another 2 week break after next week’s episode.

Been doing this show for 25 years but 'shockingly' they just couldn't hit that deadline this week?

100% it was mocking Charlie Kirk, and they pulled it. Or had it pulled for them.

It'd be a terrible look for them...especially because Charlie came out and said that he loved the parody and that people need to not have such thin skin...but then again, this whole season has seemed more out of character for them than previous IMO.

That would be my guess.

I'd bet they were absolutely going back to the Kirk-Cartman bit originally and have been scrambling to rewrite since last Wednesday.

Too much money or peer pressure from the Marxist to promote the political propaganda.

I don't know why people seem the think they were going back to that. Doesn't seem like something they would use in episode 2, then skip in episode 3 and 4 completely, then go back to in episode 5.

They haven't brought back Kristi Noem from that episode either.

Of course it does. They should have been honest and said 'sorry, y'all. still too soon.'

shite, they may have had Cartman/Kirk as a recurring character.

except they didn't. he appeared in 1 episode out of 4. If it was episode 4 you could maybe think he was gonna be recurring. he hasn't appeared in the last 2 episodes.

So you're quibbling over the term 'recurring?' That's definitely on brand for you.

And of course requires that you know the future.

Have they said anything about Kirk’s assassination?

Yes its dumb to call a character that appeared in one episode in 27 seasons recurring.

Theyve been behind on every episode this season. They havent had to do weekly or biweekly episodes since before covid and apparently they are still struggling to get back on that pace.

No dumbass. What I meant was maybe they had planned to bring him back as a recurring character and changed their minds.

But in this case, I think the most likely reason for the cancellation is that they don't think anyone wants to see their faces (so to speak) right now. Probably a good call.

Yeah it’s not like they’ve been beating the shite out of a couple of dead horses all season long or anything. Have you even been watching this season? Them reusing themes or even literally the exact same jokes all season is 100% on brand for this season.

Nah. All the episodes have had their own themes.

Episode 1: Churches in schools
Episode 2: ICE Mackey/Master Debater
Episode 3: ChatGPT/Tegridy
Episode 4: Labubus/City Wok

The only recurring element is the Trump/Satan stuff
