Similarities between recent LSU baseball and football teams

I think there is an interesting similarity between our recent championship baseball teams and 2019 football team/current football team.
The 2023 baseball team was a legendary team of stars. Between Skenes, Crews, Morgan, Tanks, Floyd, etc, that team was ridiculously loaded.
The 2025 baseball team was obviously very talented. But, paled in comparison to the 2023 team in terms of star power and dominance. They were a championship team but constructed completely differently than 2023 (relied on pitching, defense, and timely hitting).
The 2019 football team was so star powered that we may never see that again….in College Football.
This years team is a legitimate championship contender. But, different than 2019. It is defense oriented and based on offense not making mistakes. Yes- the offense needs to improve. But, I think I need to accept that we will not score 40-50 points very often this year. 2019 set the expectations really high for this fanbase.

Defense wins championships, but offense sure does make it easier. While this year's defense is elite and something we haven't seen at LSU in a long time, we're still going to have to start scoring touchdowns if we want to win a title this year.

The similarities are that you had some key players decide to come back for another season and you hit in the transfer portal and your true freshman recruits made an immediate impact.
This isnt necessarily a similarity amongst LSU baseball and LSU Football teams....this is more so a commonality amongst National Championship Teams.

Are you saying that the record in Omaha is the single determining factor in quality?
I think if you compared offensive stats it would be night and day.
I think the draw in 2023 was tougher. I don’t think the 2025 team would have beaten the 2023 Wake Forrest team.

In other words, if this offense can put together 28-35 points in a game it would be very difficult for anyone in the country to beat them.

Wake forest, Tennessee, and Florida in 2023 were better teams than Arkansas, UCLA, and Coastal in 2025.

Honestly, I can see that comparison. But just like the Baseball team we will need the offense to hit on all cylinders at certain points in the season. I would like to see that happen. But the comparison is not a bad one. Kudos.

I really believe that the offensive line is the most important thing in all levels of football. Yes…to win championships it takes a bit more…but if your o-line is really good, it makes your QB a lot better, your RB a lot better, and to be honest, your defense a lot better because you can dominate the time of possession.

Watching Chase Shores at the beginning of the season is like watching Nuss. Both are talented and frustrating to watch. You know they have the potential. Now we find out Nuss has an injury though not nearly as severe as Chase’s it should heal hopefully and he will improve as the year goes on. Hopefully he rests this week.

One thing to note that in ‘25 is that if we had lost a game before the finals, we wouldn’t have made it to the finals. However, that doesn’t really matter now, does it?

If they can improve their run blocking, and allow Nuss to run a BALANCED offense, I think the sky is the limit.

Been screaming this for a couple days now! And especially like the 2025 LSU Baseball team, the 2025 LSU Football Team can win games a whole lot of ways when you don’t give up a lot of points (runs) on the defensive side of the ball.

LSU’s side of the bracket was tougher in 2023 than 2025. Plus LSU went into the 2023 finals without their ace (due to the difficulty of the bracket).

I think it depends completely on the OL. Can they improve throughout the season, just like ‘25 baseball team did? If they can improve their run blocking, and allow Nuss to run a BALANCED offense, I think the sky is the limit.
Last season under Coach Sylvester, the OL didn't improve their Run Blocking during the season AT ALL.
That's WITH Campbell, Dellinger, Jones and Frazier in there and with Durham & Williams as the RB's.
This season, the only OL position that has improved is Center. (With Braelin Moore) Dellinger and Thompson are about even. Everything else has regressed and is Hot Garbage!
All I see coming up in the SEC are a lot of 17-10 and 20-13 type games. Who wins those games?
