One of the biggest portal pickups that barely anyone talked about. We haven’t had a punter consistently flip the field since Brad Wing.

Ironic that Chadwick and Wing both pissed on Florida

This is a big deal. A great punter can help you win some games. Incidentally, I don't think enough was made of the La Tech punter repeatedly forcing us to start drives around the 5 yd line. Having to drive 90+ yards to score really holds an offense down.

Started slow with the Clemson game, but was an impact player vs Florida.

It was huge man. Especially when you run the ball on 2nd down no matter the distance

It's funny when the same people who complain in every thread don't even know what they're complaining about.

LSU had 29 2nd down plays against La Tech. Here is what LSU ran on those plays:

pass
pass
pass
pass
pass
pass
run - penalty
run - 48 yards
pass
pass
pass
pass
run
pass
pass
pass
pass
run - 15 yards first down
pass
pass
run - goal line carry
pass
run
pass
run
pass
run - 43 yards
run - goal line carry

So, they ran the ball 9 times, 2 of which were goal line carries, 3 of which resulted in at least a 15 yard gain, and 2 of which resulted in a 40+ yard gain.

A high level punter combined with a salty defense can definitely tilt the field in your favor..

By far the best punting game LSU has had in a long long time. Big part of the game, just like PKing.

That was an incredible portal pickup for LSU.

The punting game is leaps and bounds better than it was last season.

While this is true, it's more than that. A great punter combined with a great defense, becomes an offensive weapon of its own. Let's say you're consistently putting the other team inside the 20. They need 2 to 3 big plays or maybe as much as 5 or 6 "grind it out" first down sequences just to threaten to score.

Contrast that to getting the ball at the 35 or whatever. You're only a couple of first down sequences or even 1 or 2 big plays from scoring position.

Pinning the other team deep, particularly with an aggressive defense lets your defense put pressure on them - not to score - just to move the ball to avoid punting from the endzone and putting you in scoring position immediately.

Having poor punt/coverage teams AND a weak defense is a recipe for getting into 10 TD shootouts.
