No. 3 LSU (3-0) returns to action this Saturday to face the Southeastern LA Lions (2-1) in Tiger Stadium. The game kicks off at 6:45pm CT and will be televised on the SEC Network.
This will be just the third meeting between the two schools. They first played each other in 1949 and last played in 2018. LINK to Series History
LSU is coming off a tough 20-10 victory at home against Florida. SLU beat MS Valley, 56-3, last weekend.
Press Conference Tidbits:
- Kelly started off by apologizing to Michael Cauble about his reaction to Cauble's question about the LSU offense in the post game press conference.
- Kelly says that there were three instances in which analytics told him to go for it on 4th down but he chose to punt instead.
- Dashawn Spears named SEC Defensive Player of the Week...he had two interceptions, including a Pick 6.
- Kelly says that he is being more conservative on offense (eg, not going for it on 4th and short) because the defense is so good....mentioned having some young players on the offensive line.
- Kelly says Nuss has been slowed by a torso injury during Fall camp, but stopped short of saying it is the cause of the passing game woes. He did admit that he hasn't practiced deep passes as much in practice as a result of the injury.
- West Weeks has a calf injury...strain...at this time, he is questionable for the SLU game.
- Kelly lauded the offensive line for not giving up any sacks against a good Florida defense.
- Kelly disagreed with the targeting call on Whit Weeks. Whit will be available for the entire SLU game.
- Kelly admits that the offense will need to score more points than it has against some of the other teams on the schedule.

Really hope West injury isn’t serious. He finally got an opportunity this year and has been a baller next to Whit and Perk.

Camera guy having a stroke?

You knew he would apologize. Channel 2 is plastered all over the stadium plus who owns it

LSU got an intern handling the camera with the tripod not locked

Kelly admits Nuss is dealing with a torso injury

That's the "core" problem.

Or Kelly realized he reacted poorly and cleared the air. I am sure LSU was worried Channel 2 would pull a sponsorship because someone was mean to their reporter.

The "we were managing the game" line is such bullshite. Your team had one legit scoring drive. Your defense set a program record for interceptions, and the game is still in doubt to the end.
If your idea of managing a game is getting nine first downs, then you should consider a different strategy.

I hope the same but I'm VERY comfortable with Keys as his replacement.

This. And it seemed genuine.

This explains a lot, and why he looks so stiff when he's throwing. Though I think Kelly still isn't telling the whole truth saying "during Fall camp", when it's obvious that something is still bothering him. His arm strength looks on par with Danny Etling at the moment.

How did the torso injury occur and what is the prognosis. Can it heal over time or will he deal with it all season?

That made me feel better about the Fla game. On Offense, it was a game management situation, not a sling it downfield type situation. Plus they didn't want Nuss pushing his injury situation with long throws. He knows we are going to have to sling it in 3 or 4 games, but this wasn't one of them and Nuss needs to get better. We could win this with 20 points. We will probably need 30+ points at OM, Bama, A&M, OU and possibly Vandy.. Those are the games we really need to show up on both sides to run the table.

It's ok to admit you don't understand what managing the game means.
