Ole Miss snubs TGBFTL

I’ve heard TigerDroppings has been used as a force in the past. My nephew is in Tiger Band and he was told that the Ole Miss won’t let them march next week when they bring their full band. The band director apparently sent a message to the band saying that it was a decision of the Ole Miss athletic department and has nothing to do with Ole Miss’s band department. The director’s message said they weren’t given a reason why, and that the LSU band and athletic department had tried to fight multiple times but they weren’t successful. They’re all pretty frustrated. If you get a chance, put a call into the Ole Miss athletic department and tell them they’re being bad sports! LSU always lets opposing bands play when they bring their full band, the rest of the SEC should do the same. It's apparently too late to change their plans for a full band trip so they are locked in to going to Ole Miss.

Thank you, Baren, I'll place that call ASAP!

I'm confused, do we want to perform at halftime on Ole Miss's field or something?
What do you mean by "won't let them march"?

Yes. Visiting bands will sometimes perform at halftime. It looks like according to the SEC rules it's up to the home team AD as to whether or not that can occur.
quote:
In order for the visiting team marching band to perform at half-time, the visiting team must request
permission from the host institution’s Athletics Director by February 1. If the host institution’s Athletics
Director does not grant permission, the visiting team marching band may not perform at half-time.

I understand we have a great band, but how many times has LSU allowed something like this. From my memory its not super often besides teams like Grambling and Southern.
Devil's advocate here: If I am old miss, i would not want my rival to perform at halftime on my field.

No problem…we just do the same to them next year!

We have been allowed at Bama, Auburn, Tennessee, and any other school that brings their full band to march in Tiger Stadium in recent history.

Only if TGBFTL quits catering to DeAngelo Sanchez at away games

am I supposed to be outraged at this? cause I don't think I've ever cared less about an issue.

I feel like we always let A&M do it. And they're fricking awesome. Only cool thing about the Aggies.

Lol what a post. Sorry your kid is gonna get a trip to Oxford and gets to eat at halftime instead of run the travel show.
He’s getting paid and he’ll get to play his instrument. He’ll be ok not playing the halftime show in Oxford. Their gate, their rules.
Have them ask the band old heads about the classic Ole Miss stories. Hopefully no one throws a full beer at them.

Wait bands perform at halftime? I thought this was bathroom break time.

It used to be supper common.
But now most bands only bring a small contingent to away games (like we do with our Pep band). The bands tickets come out of the allotment to the school. They would much rather those tickets to go to boosters and not have to also pay to get the band to the game. So when those small pep bands go they aren't marching. But when teams bring their full band they normally intend on marching and almost all home teams agree. It's why the Ole Miss band director made sure to note that it is not their (the band's) decision because it is kind of looked down upon in the band community to deny the other band the time to march,

Boohoo. If you told me they weren't allowing us to send the band, fine, but are you all seriously whining about a visiting team not getting to take the field and perform?
God, it is embarrassing how entitled some of you are.

LSU band will not perform at halftime at Ole Miss. I’m sure LSU can return the favor next time Ole Miss comes to Baton Rouge.

That's a travesty, not in and of itself, but their truculence could e-x-p-a-n-d to other issues, such as:
Could Ole Miss deny LSU the right to wear its traditional white uniforms for that game?

Probably a business decision. Less free seats they have to give LSU and can sell to actual fans. It's all about the dollar now at every school. Ole Miss doesn't bring their full band usually to Baton Rouge.

Obviously you are not a musician. Musicians want to perform. They work hard to represent the university and prepare a halftime show. It ain't easy, brother. Just like it is customary to allow the opposing team to wear their white jerseys if they ask, the home team is under no obligation to allow it. If they don't, it's just another reason to hate the home team. Bulletin board material, or haven't you heard about that? Us old farts call it chickenshit but then, considering who we are talking about here, no one should be surprised. Ole Miss just generally is chickenshit.
No one is outraged; not one feels entitled. It's just poor manners. If you don't understand, just drink your beer with your shots and take your little potty break under the stands (if you even go to the games) and let those who can appreciate the talent and effort that is Tiger Band enjoy the spectacle.
LA Tech brought their full band and they marched - was a nice show. Those folks can say they marched halftime in Tiger Stadium and they will remember it for years, even if some of ya'll were too inebriated to notice. It is expensive and not everyone can afford or wants to afford bringing the entire band for every away game (Florida didn't). But when they do, and if they request to march halftime, it is poor sportsmanship to say no. I have enjoyed performances by many visiting bands in Tiger Stadium over the last 40 years. I make sure I take care of my business during stoppages in play so I can remain in the stands to enjoy the show. Lines are usually long at halftime, as well. You might want to try it sometime.
