He’s not the best coach on campus. Baseball is still a regional sport. Kim Mulkey is the best coach on campus. If Johnson hangs a few more skins on the wall then maybe. Her résumé for exceeds his to this point.

that's nuts.. She won one title and she is just good recruiter, which notably is what women's bb is all about. She is not an elite x and o coach.

Skins on the wall at LSU:
Kim Mulkey: 1
Jay Johnson: 2

CJJ is the man, no doubt. CBB is somewhere near the man, earning every cent this season. Pulling together a unit with 8 new starters and yielding dominating results. His scheme (down & distance matchups) and rotation to keep guys fresh has been superb. Also props to him as the LB positional coach having our young guys prepared to step in and play assignment football.

Here's to you CBB.

2 Northeast Louisiana kids. Know both of them well. One playing at Sterlington and the other at Cedar Creek. Coached both. Both great kids with great families.

I know the guy that’s been working with both of them the past couple of years at DBat in Monroe. He actually works with 3 pitchers committed to LSU. Downs, Luker and Cupit from West Monroe.

It’s ok to take it out of context.
Took a shite LSU program to this…
Second round
Title
Elite 8 (think that this is the CWS
Elite 8

I’m not debating this. I’ll let her resume speak for it.
In four seasons since returning to Louisiana, Kim Mulkey has brought LSU back to national prominence as one of the premier programs in the country.

Mulkey and the Tigers have recorded three consecutive 30-win seasons and three straight Elite Eight appearances, including the National Championship in 2023. It has become one of the most exciting programs across America, with top notch attendance records, driven by an energetic fan base.

Less than two years after Mulkey returned to Louisiana to do good and be a positive figure in her home state as the head coach for the LSU Women’s Basketball team, the Hall-of-Famer Mulkey delivered the program’s first National Championship to Baton Rouge in 2023.

The Tigers were dominant en route to their first national championship, compiling a 34-2 record, including a perfect 17-0 record at home in the PMAC. LSU defeated Iowa in Dallas for the national championship, 102-85, setting the record for points in a championship game. The championship game drew 9.9 million viewers across ABC and ESPN networks to set the record for the most watched women’s college basketball game of all-time.

The Tigers averaged 82.3 points per game throughout the championship season to rank No. 5 in the nation. Scoring 100 points in each of the first five games of the season, LSU tied the NCAA record. The only other team to score 100+ points in five straight games was the 1981-82 Louisiana Tech team that featured Mulkey leading the team as the point guard. LSU set the program record for 100-point games in a season with their sixth in the final game of the season.

Mulkey, the most successful player-turned-coach in college basketball history, was named head coach of the LSU women’s basketball team on April 25, 2021.

LSU finished the 2021-22 season with the best scoring offense in the SEC, putting up 73.7 points per game while shooting 44.3-percent from the field to rank No. 2 in the SEC. The increased offense helped lead LSU back into the rankings where the Tigers reached as high as No. 6 in the AP Poll throughout the season. The Tigers were 6-1 against ranked teams throughout Coach Mulkey’s first season in Baton Rouge.
Before joining Baylor, Mulkey spent 19 years as either a student-athlete or coach at Louisiana Tech, building the Lady Techsters into a national powerhouse. During her tenure in Ruston, Mulkey was associated with 11 Final Four squads and three national championship teams. She has either played or coached in the national championship game on 11 occasions.

Over her 15-year stint as an assistant and associate head coach at her alma mater, Louisiana Tech posted a 430-68 (.864) record and advanced to seven Final Fours. Mulkey held the title of associate head coach for her final four seasons. Her responsibilities at Tech included coordinating recruiting, tutoring Lady Techster guards, overseeing the players’ academic progress and running the summer camps. Because of her diligence, no Lady Techster was ever declared academically ineligible.

As a player, Mulkey led the Lady Techsters to a 130-6 (.956) record, two national titles and four Final Fours from 1980-84. During that time, the 5-foot-4 playmaker, known for her spectacular passes and French braids, also led Louisiana Tech to its first two national championships (1981 and 1982) and was a part of the USA’s Gold medal-winning team at both the 1984 Olympics and the 1983 Pan American Games.

Mulkey averaged 6.38 assists and 1.56 steals per game and currently ranks second on Tech’s all-time list in assists and 12th in steals.

In addition, the summa cum laude scholar was a two-time Academic All-American as a business major. In recognition of her success in the classroom and on the basketball court, Mulkey was inducted into the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Hall of Fame in June 2003.

Her athletic career began at an early age. Mulkey, born and raised in Tangipahoa Parish, played Dixie Youth baseball as a 12-year old as well as two years of Pony League baseball and made the all-star team two of the three years. At Hammond High School, she led the basketball team to four-straight state championships, posted a 136-5 record and finished her career with a then-national record 4,075 points. She earned all-district, all-state and All-America honors each of her four years at Hammond High. She also graduated as her class’ valedictorian with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Mulkey has a street named after her in her hometown of Tickfaw.

You don’t know a fricking thing about coaching.
She is a relentless coach. Go watch ONE of her practices. Her teams are relentless defensively and on the boards. In transition they always push it.

Me too. Dismissing what she has done at LsU and what she did before is like spitting on her career when comparing her and Jay. The difference between her and Paul is she hasn’t slowed down.

That has ZERO to do with coaching.

100% agree with wanting a baseball title above WBB. That is not what we are debating. We are comparing 2 great coaches. Frankly, Mulkey’s resume far exceeds Johnson. Maybe Johnson will get to 4 titles and do it at 2 schools and be as consistent as she is.

Here’s what I know about Mulkey, I remember when they sued to keep her out of LL baseball because she was a girl. She was the best player on the field. That I know. She will tell you she loves baseball.
