Sources say that A24 is winning the film and TV rights for Texas Chain Saw Massacre, which were up for auction and had a handful of bidders. First up would be a series from JT Mollner, Roy Lee and Glen Powell, though the latter will not star as we previously told you.

With the deal, A24 beats out a feature directed and co-written by Bryan Bertino with Oz Perkins producing, as well as a Taylor Sheridan-produced version of Leatherface.

We previously said that Jordan Peele’s run at Texas Chain Saw Massacre dissipated quite quickly.

The TCM series is one of my guilty pleasures, I even like the batshit insane one with Matthew McConaughey. The Netflix one was utter dogshit that I barely got through though, so I’ll be interested to see what A24 does with it. Being a Texan himself, Glen Powell seems like a guy who could do something cool with it.

A24 loves their sadism so that particular IP is in good hands.

Kind of lighting money on fire.

No horror movie was less set up for a sequel than TCM

Hooper made a pardoy-satire in 2, which was OK.

The rest are complete dogshit because they tried to make Leatherface into a slasher. The only 2 things with redeeming qualities about any other TCM movie are:

1. Jessica Beal at her peak (in the 2003 remake)

2. The trailer for 3

Maybe they’ll go in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 direction?

TCM is one of the most run into the ground franchises out there. I don't know how they've made so many sequels and prequels with so little story to build on

There was one that came out a decade or so and the main female character was actually a cousin to leatherface

The story game him sort of a redemption arc and the female character threw him a chainsaw and said “do your thing, cuz”.. or something to that effect

What the frick kind of shite was that

That was Alexandra Dadarrio before she was famous

I don't even think that was the Leatherface origin story, either, which was somehow worse.

Agreed.

TCM is the GOAT, too.

TCM and Hellraiser were the 2 classic horror movies that created a framing/setting that m ade sequels difficult

...and somehow both became franchises have an incredible amount of shitty sequels after the 1st sequel

Whatever A24 does with it, it can’t be worse than that awful Netflix one that came out 2-3 years ago. Man that movie was bad.

I don't mind the Hellraiser sequels. The lore in the first four movies is pretty interesting and there's even some decent stuff in the later sequels. If you want to compare TCM to another franchise with way too many sequels, I would go with Amityville. There's got to be at least 50 straight to video Amityville movies all abut some haunted house.

I've actually never seen Amityville but almost went to see the house around Halloween a few years ago

I will say this, the last Hellraiser movie does intrigue me, but I think I've seen all the notable stuff on Youtube. But I believe it was originally written as a movie and the new studio who owned the Hellraiser rights inserted Pinhead into it to make it a "Hellraiser" movie. Also it's a movie that is one of those "had they made it with more money, could it have been good?" movies.

But even with Hellraiser, you can expand on the universe.

TCM is a movie about a family of cannibals in rural Texas. There isn't much on the bone to work with.

Seeing how all the people were corrupted and turned into cenobites in the Hellraiser movies is interesting. I don't care about Leatherface's second cousin or his great grandfather or anything like that. What made the first movie work was the way it was shot and the gritty feel it had, not the interesting characters.

Correct

The minimalism and rawness was super effective

That makes a sequel difficult
