Did anyone else enjoy his stint on Monday Night Football back in the day?
ETA: randomly ran into this video, which reminded me that this happened. I can’t embed it due to NFL content.

Gosh that is so long ago. I really don’t remember much about him being on MNF.

It was a complete disaster

It was really astounding how quickly he got canned even without the use of social media.

I was a fan. I thought his one-liners and obscure references were often hilarious against the backdrop of an NFL game.

Same. It felt like Jeopardy at times. Sense of humor so insanely dry it was hard to believe.

Miller is great but he just didn't work on MNF.

Wasn’t that when the score bug would have nicknames? Like Fins, Boys, Pats, etc.

Over the years MNF has trotted out some of the worst announcers in sports history: OJ, Miller, Kornheiser, Witten and Booger.

And Howard Cosell. The voice couldn't make up for how shitty he was as a color commentator.

Same. When Monday Night Football was launched it was with recognition that prime time football needed a different type of broadcast than the Sunday games. Hence the Cossell phenomena.
I thought Miller brought MNF back to that line of thinking.

Miller's humor is not for everyone as he can definitely come across in a pompous/"I'm smarter than you manner." I doubt the average football fan is going to get a "Flowers for Algernon" reference.
I generally like Miller's comedy. The moment I will never forget from his time on MNF was during some random game when the camera panned to the (even then) old referee Dick Hantak to announce a penalty. Without missing a beat, right before Hantak was about to speak Miller said "Good Evening" in an Alfred Hitchcock voice like Hitchcock would say at the beginning of his TV show. It was so subtle, but I lost it

I was pretty young but i remember thinking like “um this is strange.”

Two seasons isn't that fast. He definitely wouldn't have got that long in the social media era. Drew Brees got a few games on NBC and basically got run because of one playoff game.
The amazing part is that not too long ago Monday Night Football needed to make a dramatic hire for it to be "saved".

People who shite on Dennis Miller were asleep at the wheel when Kornheiser was on MNF
And don’t forget Boogers diabetes lift

He did a saints game that year and the booth was talking about rookie hazing and how it’s good to give the new guy a hard time. Under his breath, miller goes, “has anyone seen my wallet ?” And in a room of about twenty saints fans I was the only one who burst out laughing.
Granted, I used to love staying up late to watch Dennis miller live on Friday nights as a young lad so I’m a bit biased but I thought he was pretty damn funny in MNF

He was largely underwhelming. But he’d have a moment or two ever other week that would legit make me crack up.

He lives on forever in the Saints first playoff win. When Hakim drops the ball Miller was trying to get in to say something for like two minutes but Dan Fouts and Al Michaels just steamroll him.

Dennis Miller caused me to watch MNF on mute.
