I deleted facebook for good an hour after Charlie was shot because of two reasons:

1. I didn't want to see the vile posts from liberals
2. I knew if I stayed on it, I'd end up getting in trouble for something I'd say to one of them.

I mean, discord is just a tool. Servers are invite only. You can only join a server if someone you know there invites you to join. I don't see how it's any different than being in a group text.

Then keep using it if you like it's a free country.

I'll not be using it.

Agreed, it's the equivalent of saying "I'll never use Verizon again because this guy had Verizon and used it to talk to friends"

I hosted a single server for teammates in a wargame that I play, that was the limit of my interaction with the platform.

I think it's massively different, simply down to the fact that if you are on a group text you have functionally doxxed yourself to whomever is present in the text.

The anonymity and added layer of obscurity works in favor of this type of incubation and in my view it is up to the proprietors to establish safeguards against it.

Would you post here if the admins hosted an invite-only Antifa forum that spawned a political assassin?
There is no difference between the two

I understand your choice but this is like when people blame guns when it’s the user not the gun. Now if you were seeing weird shite then absolutely distance yourself from there, I don’t use discord or many social media applications.

Here's some reading material about how the platform has been abused.

quote:

The Utah man being held in the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk used the social media platform Discord to send messages about the rifle and engraved bullets, authorities said at a news conference this morning.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said that Tyler Robinson’s roommate, who was not identified, showed investigators messages that mentioned the rifle and how it was left under brush, wrapped in a towel.

quote:

In 2022, Payton Gendron, the man indicted in the mass shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, that killed 10 people, used an invitation-only Discord server to detail his plans.

In a statement after the shooting, Discord disclosed Gendron’s activities on the platform and pledged to work to combat hate, violence and extremism.

quote:

Other mass shootings that were discussed on Discord include one last year at Apalachee High School in Georgia. Per reporting by The Washington Post, authorities believed the teen charged in that shooting, Colt Gray, used an email address that was linked to a chat discussing the desire to commit a mass shooting.

NBC News reported that Discord messages about violence were also connected to Dylan Butler, who took his own life after a school shooting in Iowa last year.

I never liked discord. Their format is so convoluted.

That’s not even the same thing buddy. Might as well throw your phone in a lake, delete X, remove YouTube, get off twitch, get off the internet entirely. It’s like blaming electricity because it led to political discourse. It’s asinine, but if it makes you feel better, more power to you.

I don't ever see that on Facebook. Not sure how it would ever show up on my feed.
