So maybe this is stupid but it kinda hit me today for the first time in my 40+ years. I’m not taking the piss out of anyone, I’m genuinely wanting to know.

Why do atheists have a label? If you don’t believe in something why make a group for that? I don’t have a label because I don’t believe in Bigfoot.

Because atheism is a religion whether they know it or not.

They all repeat scientific phrases without ever seeing the proof and believing it on faith because someone told them so.

You would if 99% of humanity believed in Bigfoot.

I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist.

It’s shorter than “people lying to themselves”

Atheism is the faith that something somehow came from nothing. Not only something, but a series of circumstances that defied astronomical odds to lead to sentient life...multiple times on the same planet

Well put. I hadn’t considered that lack of faith still requires faith.

I started to quote a post with my usual, "This is the correct answer" addition, but pretty much every post has been the correct answer, so well done all.

You can’t escape your heritage. Your ancestral religion is basically in your DNA. It governs all your decisions whether you want to accept it or not. Just because some dipshit at university got you to denounce it doesn’t mean it went away. I’m not religious but I’m also not in denial.

Hitler and Stalin were atheists and saw themselves as gods.

And it’s a belief in chance. Which is not a thing. So I guess I revise my statement above: they believe in a nothing. And that’s unreality because they had to exist to come up with that conclusion. They had to be things.

For a more sophisticated similar argument, see Plantinga’s Evolutionary Argument Against Naturalism.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying here. Can you expound?

So your heritage comes with its faith which for most people goes back as far as can be traced. It’s ingrained in your value system generationally. You can’t escape it

It’s the rejection of theism. Which has evolved into the rejection of what we today consider religion. They believe in something. They are just in denial of what it actually is.

Now what we see with trans ideology and children mutilation is pure satanic demon possession.

They're saying that you can't escape your religious heritage, even if you denounce it. I agree. I lack faith, but much of my decision making comes from the influence of it in my raising. Same as people who let their lack of faith turn them into monsters. It's the anger and exaggerated turn against it that makes them behave as fools.
