Kirk was 100% right on his 2nd amendment quote that is being shared

quote:
You will never live in a society when you have an armed citizenry and you won't have a single gun death. That is nonsense. It's drivel. But I am, I, I — I think it's worth it. I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational. Nobody talks like this. They live in a complete alternate universe.
The quote has been shared around as if it's some sort of ironic, karmic justice that Charlie was shot and killed. It's a sign that you're dealing with someone who cannot understand nuance, logic, or argument.
Aside from the fact that his statement is bookended by explanation and suggestions on bringing down gun violence (you can search for yourself, but I'm narrowing it down to this quote because it's been the most commonly posted), his argument rings 100% true. In the statement that preceded this one, Charlie compared it to driving deaths but I think it makes even more sense to apply it to other constitutional rights to really understand the gravity of it:
We don't give up our first amendment rights because people will say things that offend, deceive, or even incite violence. And I'm not talking about the leftist idea that words are violence. We would never entertain the idea that because people can say libelous things that everyone should give up at least some of their right to speech.
We don't give up our fourth or fifth amendment rights because people will get away with crimes that they could otherwise be found guilty of if the state had unlimited authority. The fact is that we understand that, unfortunately, there is a nonzero chance that someone will evade justice because of the rights guaranteed to them by these amendments. And we're ok with that, because we understand that the alternative is worse.
When you start eroding rights because someone will inevitably misuse them, you don't have rights at all. Charlie understood that.

This is certainly a poignant discussion point within the larger context of your thread and those using Kirks quotes to mock him.
Because that's kind of/basically what they want, too.

I certainly agree. It is like our 5 senses. Each one is just as important as the other.
Besides, we are naturally going to protect ourselves, family, home, and friends, even the weak. We do not have to ask another person or entity for the right to protect.

It was really ironic that he was in mid speech about mass shooter, says “are we including gang voices or not,” then gets killed by a mass shooter.

I did not realize multiple people were shot. OMG!

The same degenerates using that quote as some gotcha are also the ones who claim "we shouldn't deport all illegal immigrants based on a few bad apples".

He is of course correct and it’s a logical take.
There are scores of vaccine related deaths every year but clearly the left is not in favor of banning vaccines.
There are millions of automobile deaths but no one is banning cars.

Obtuse parroting of false dichotomies is a hallmark of the post-truth leftist.

Liberals are using this as some gotcha to laugh at him but I guarantee you if you could talk to his ghost today he would say the same exact thing.
He understood some things are bigger than ourselves

How many people got shot yesterday?

What I wrote on the OT to someone who couldn’t digest what he was saying:
He acknowledged that any society with a mechanism like the second amendment would have a higher share of gun deaths. However, it was in the context of being able to protect more lives from tyranny. Which, given the state of the current left in America, is absolutely true. Without an armed populace, we would potentially be facing something like the Cultural Revolution that occurred in China in the 1970s.

No, whats really ironic is that he was on school grounds where there is a federal mandated gun-free zone. Yet another leftist policy that doesn't work.

He was, and it's a point I was making in the thread about covid. We trade lives for convenience, money and freedom every single day.
