never owned one but every pit bull i ever met via friends was a sweet, loving dog that just wanted to be beside you and get some ear scratches
that said, have no doubt those white trash pos were raising attack dogs with no knowledge of how to do so and, well...

I used to think this way too but my friend has one who is the sweetest dog. I think it depends on the owner

This is true, but...
Twice now, I have seen those well-trained and well-raised dogs absolutely flip out and go into attack mode completely unprovoked. One attacked a person who had to get around 30 stitches in their leg (thankfully the owner was literally right there to pull the dog off), and the other was a pit that attacked a beagle and shook it so hard it shattered its bones including the neck, which killed the beagle.
Again, these were dogs that were raised around other dogs and even kids, and had never shown any signs of instability or aggression.
I don't care if you're one of those pitbull advocates that say "they're misunderstood and just need love". This is true, but it is a breed that has been bred to kill, and it's not an instinct that just leaves them. They have an underlying propensity towards following their baser instincts, like all animals including humans, and I personally wouldn't trust one or own one. If the nation devolves into a SHTF scenario, a few pits is what you want. But if you're just looking for a good family dog with a great disposition, get yourself a lab.

Yeah, heard the same thing - that some from this collective breed are sweet - but instinct is instinct despite training. I am sure there are some sweet as hell chihuahuas but most in my experience are nasty as hell - and if they were larger - well there probably be regularly reported serious attacks on humans from chihuahuas. As such, training can only go so far.
Strange that there does not ever seem to be a vicious lab or golden retriever associated with a vicious human attack. I guess there have been, but I would also surmise they are miniscule compared to pit attacks.
To add, what about livestock guardian dogs such as Great Pyrenees? They are friendly in nature such as labrador and golden retrievers and are gentle as hell around humans but they are fierce when needed - and these dogs would definitely put pits in their place - as in graveyard dead.

Read, the dogs suddenly flip out and do serious damage. The dog is a cocked trigger waited to be pulled.

My own vet tells us that Pit Bulls shouldn’t be kept around small children because they're sweet family dogs and then one day, some switch in their brains flips, and suddenly they're mauling your toddler. Pits were bred for aggression, and it cant be loved out if them.

I do not know enough about how to raise a dog, so I would never take on the responsibility of harboring a potential threat to others' safety.

It does not depend on the owner. All the owners are stupid. The owners that have children are even more stupid. Pitt bull dogs are a low IQ breed of dog that have been bred to hurt other animals.
