Nuss’s deep balls are so arse

They seem to whimper out on the way down. They have no velocity to them - little ploppers. I remember a reporter asking Kelly about them mid last year if there was some sort of mechanics issue and Kelly said potentially. Just seems strange because his arm talent is so good and you see it on his midrange balls.

This feels like a reaction to the under throw INT yesterday and the lack of shots last week (which was 100% tied to gameplan given their two high look).
Nuss threw a ton of very nice deep balls in 2024. Unless he’s hurt I don’t see this being a problem moving forward.

Nuss has been just a hair off to start this year on a lot of balls. If you watch against Clemson there were a few that he needed to hit in stride and didn’t. I really think it’s the timing with the new receivers. We need to find our best 3-4 and let them play.

And to the multiple poorly thrown balls to the deep sideline last week and the year before. It’s for sure the weaker part of his game. He has a quick release, and incredible anticipation. But on the these deep balls, imo he’s putting a ton of air under them and throwing off his back foot.

He threw a ton of very nice deep balls in the bowl game. The rest of the season everything was to the sidelines or underneath. Just like we've seen this year.

Yeah his deep ball is usually pretty good. The one last night was buns, though

No, they arent. Nuss has not done well on the deep throws last year or this year.
They are either under thrown off his back foot or ever thrown.

So what is he good for? He even sacks himself.

I seem to remember some statistics from last year showing that Nuss struggles with deep balls. I could be wrong though.
Found this from last year:
quote:
Nussmeier averaged 11.4 yards per attempt on balls thrown 20+ yards. That ranked 16th in the SEC. He completed 36% of such passes, ranking 12th in the SEC.

Footwork issues cause most of his issues

I’ve never seen one remotely close to as bad as the one last night

Maybe not but it has never been his strong suite. Nuss was never a great deep ball passer. Now Jayden on the other hand was his second season

I feel like the first interception made him play hesitant the rest of the night and that's not really his style.

We heard a lot about him chucking it all camp successfully. What changed? In camp he knew he couldn’t get hit. He doesn’t trust the line will hold up and is thinking about getting destroyed on pretty much every throw. We saw it plenty of times last night, throwing off his back foot and phantom pressure rollouts. The line was overall bad but I saw plenty of plays where Nuss would have been fine had he stepped up into the pocket.

Nuss had 2 TDs flat dropped last night and arguably that one with Hilton crossing right to left was yet another (included the infamous Hilton early jump).

He would’ve had 3 interceptions against a legit SEC defense. People forget how incredibly close to 5 losses we were last year because of his reckless shite (OM and USCe).
He does not seem to have improved at all. Still doesn’t run, makes wild throws, and he’s not that accurate.

It’s weird to me how his balls seem to rise and float out of his hand, almost as if he released it like a submarine pitcher or something. It’s odd. And he is so indecisive with his throws that they often end up being into coverage. Additionally, he is often reckless with his throws. The quick slant that was dropped last night early on was because he left Thomas hanging out to dry when he should have thrown it low and slightly behind his route on that pass instead of leading him. And yes, he sacks himself often lol
All that said, I’m glad he is our qb from a leadership and heart standpoint, and he will still end up having numbers that will have him in NY at end of season

Maybe the reports by Kelly, "we are just resting his arm" are more serious than we were led to believe.
He has never had problems throwing deep in previous seasons.

Blame this on Sloan like 70% here do. One clown here says fire Sloan because Moore got hurt. The same idiots who wanted to fire O and Ensminger. Then they got butt fricked when O and Ensminger brought us the Natty, a Heisman QB, and one of the all time great college football teams ever. They knew nothing then and know even less now. Sloan didn't miss run blocks, throw bad passes and not tuck and run to keep drives going.

I'm hoping it comes out that he was dealing with the flu or something. The Nuss we saw last night has no business being in the Heisman conversation.
