Will be a fun reunion. Has to be sad for these guys to see what Sonny Cumbie has done to the Louisiana Tech program in just three years.

Blake Baker - Defensive Coordinator for 5 season (2014-2018)
Joe Sloan - Multiple Positions including Associate Head Coach for 9 seasons (2013-2021)
Tim Rattay - LA Tech HoF QB and coached at Tech for 6 seasons (2013-2018)
JR Belton - Former QB/WR and then recruiting coordinator at Tech (2015-2020)
Sherman Wilson - Recruiting Coordinator (2021)
Trey Holtz - Inside Receiver Coach, Dad was Skip Holtz HC at Tech for 9 seasons (2020-2021)

Sonny Cumbie was in junior high at Snyder JH when I coached softball at Snyder HS from 95-98...

Snyder is about halfway between Abilene and Lubbock.

Should be Tech's next HC.

And the best player on the Tech defense transferred from LSU - what’s the point? LSU gave them a trade

Words cannot express just how great Tim Rattay was in the mid to late 90’s.

Tech wanted to hire Sloan or Baker last year but couldn't afford them. They are fund raising to take another shot this year. They have a better shot at Rattay.

Tech didn’t have the funds to fire Cumbie because they were prepping money for a move to Sun Belt. Sloan will be the top choice, but I’m not sure we can get him. Hey may not want the G5 coaching life and I can’t blame him. He did spend a massive chunk of his life in Ruston and married a tech grad so maybe we’ll get lucky.

Baker will be on to bigger and better at some point.

This is no disrespect to La Tech, but why on earth would Sloan or Baker take that job when they (Baker, at least) can almost certainly get a P4 (or better positioned G5) job whenever they want it?

Baker wouldn't. Sloan has pretty deep ties to the university/community, but I still think it would be unlikely.

I believe Tech's next coach will come from the FCS ranks.

Unfortunate, but probably necessary
