Is this child abuse or merely a mom teaching her toddler to swim?

I hope that lady gets water boarded at some point.

This is called ISR and it isn’t the mom. It’s a certified instructor. All of my kids have done it. The last session is in full clothes because that’s how most infant/toddler drownings occur.

It isn’t swim lessons either. It’s essentially water survival training for young children.

Brutal, but she’s right there. Not guilty.

Hell, I have a family member who paid to have this done to their actual infant, which the kid in this video isn't. They called it "swimming lessons". The kid is just over 2 years old now and can swim, so I guess it worked.

Looks like an instructor given the attentiveness, tee shirt, and stoic demeanor.

It’s obviously working.

What? GTFO. This is clearly infant/toddler training that likely has taken months. The baby has been taught to float.

My kids could swim by that age too, but it wasn’t by us throwing their scared butts into the pool, it was by being in there with them and getting them comfortable with being in the water and then having them swim back and forth to us.

Didn’t watch the full 2 minutes, but from what I saw I have no problem with it. I have a much bigger problem with adults who can’t swim.

This is pretty much throw the baby out in the water and see if he floats

My Dad did the same thing with me, only difference: he would whoop me for cryin.
I became a really good swimmer.

Which is great. But drownings don’t happen when mom & dad are right there and the kiddo is comfortable with their surroundings.

They happen when they get into the pool area alone and are panicked.

Im told I learned by 4 but no idea. I do remember at 6 or 7 watching other kids learn, though. The prevalent technique? Get the kid in, roam them around for a bit. Dunk their head. Giggle and hug.... then put them on the pool steps and "jump! Come to Mommy!!" ...

And mommy steps back and let's them fight a minute Rinse repeat. Gen X rules

Yeah, I'll say it works. Started my son doing this. He started by sitting on the side of the pool and crying. ... At this point he has been diving in the Carribean a few times and Japanese ship wrecks in the Pacific twice along with other stuff.

There is nothing wrong with what she did.

They aren’t panicked when they’ve swam to the side a 100 times.

Exactly, and keep backing up as they get closer to you. Eventually they’re swimming across the pool or turning around and heading back to the side.

Well, we can put them through this training and give them a chance OR do nothing at all and just hope they never fall in.
