Usually, it is announced WHY the play is being reviewed. Does that matter? Most of us (and the ABC announcers and the LSU players) thought the play was being reviewed to see if Brown had scored a touchdown or was out of bounds at the one as the official spotted it.

Would it have mattered if the official had said "the previous play is being reviewed to determine if the spot were correct?" Is a review limited by what they are saying they are reviewing or can all aspects of the play be reviewed?

Doesn’t matter as long as it is something they are permitted to review.

There are no limits on what can be reviewed on a reviewable play. Replay just blew the call.

Fairly certain this is the case. Once you open the play up for review, all parts of the play are open to review. I could certainly be incorrect about that though.

That’s one thing that had me raise my eyebrows. The announcers rarely get a call completely wrong, be it a replay or penalty or whatever. Last night herbie was completely opposite on 3 calls that I remember.

The replay expert was also in alignment with herbie on 2/3.
1) The “pick play/blindside block” on 4th&2 before their TD. He called out the diving block as soon as the flag hit the ground

2) The TD that was called back.

3) And the fumble by sharp.

This review was horrible, worst I’ve seen. Sure made you doubt the integrity of the officiating. Thankful we were able to overcome the biased officiating in this game.

Thanks. I figured that was the case. If so, though, I wonder why they are specific sometimes ["The play is being reviewed to determine the spot."] and other times just say "The previous play is under review."

Had all 3 of those calls been called correctly this literally could've been a 24-30point shutout.

It needs to be known who the replay official is each week and metrics kept on them publicly

He established possession before crossing the plane.

However, we were trying to hurry up next play. So we knew it was potentially a call they would review.

This is totally agree with. Was the replay official from the SEC or the NCAA? He is imcompetent.
