The Tulane football team rolled over Northwestern 23-3 on Saturday at Yulman Stadium, but Green Wave coach Jon Sumrall wasn't all smiles in the press conference after the game.

Tulane suited up in green helmets and green jerseys for the game, but Sumrall said that the uniform combination was not what he had originally planned to go with for the season opener.
quote:

Sumrall said that he requested to have his squad wear white jerseys just like the Tulane football team wore in its first game following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, but Northwestern denied the request
quote:

"When you disrespect the city of New Orleans, you're going to run into it," Sumrall said after the dominant victory. "I'm not trying to be a jerk but don't disrespect the city of New Orleans."
This week marked the 20th anniversary of Katrina's devastating impact on New Orleans. Following Katrina's landfall on Aug. 29, 2005, the Tulane football team played its season opener on Sept. 17, 2005, at Independence Stadium in Shreveport. Wearing plane green helmets and white jerseys, the Green Wave lost 21-14 to Mississippi State that day at Independence Stadium. Good on Tulane for calling them out

Surprised Tulane didn't even try to score for most of the 2nd half after that.

Retzlaff needs his Receivers to catch the ball. He’s the real deal. Got to clean up the drops to reach this team’s potential.

Credit to Tulane for their play today.

With that said, I think ULM has a great chance of beating this Northwestern team in October too.

Two things:

1. Not sure how that's disrespecting the city

2. By this logic, Sumrall needs to have his entire football team raid Latoya's mansion.

Probably a good idea to try to run the clock in a week 1 humid day game

This had frick-all to do with Katrina and everything to do with the fact that it was an 11:00 AM kickoff in August in New Orleans and normally that would mean 90+ degree temperatures with 90+% humidity. White jerseys are definitely cooler temp-wise than dark jerseys and Sumrall was looking for an edge. Nothing wrong with that, but Northwestern didn't fall for it.

Right. I don’t find it all that disrespectful but I understand Sumrall using it as a form of motivation.

FQ smells of Lemony Freshness one time and suddenly its the Virgin Mary.

Did they just learn about respecting their City or something?

Northwestern denying the request is low key hilarious.

Total A hole move.

I support.

I'm gonna guess this kind of thing is decided months if not years ahead of time when the OOC contract is signed.
