SFP Summary: They're basically pulling an Apple and co-opting the USB-C to prevent the ability to use third party docking stations.
Gemini AI Summary (with time stamps):

The video titled "Nintendo's Greed could Change the Tech Industry" from the Linus Tech Tips channel discusses Nintendo's proprietary approach to the Switch 2's dock and its potential impact on the wider tech industry.
Here is a summary with timestamps:
The video argues that Nintendo's proprietary approach is "tactical laziness" that is bad for consumers and could influence other companies [00:38]. While the rest of the industry is moving toward universal standards like USB-C, the Switch 2's dock only works with its specific device [00:59].
The video explains that USB has been a consistent standard since 1996, with continuous updates that have maintained backward and forward compatibility [02:28].
The video uses a protocol analyzer to show the communication between the Switch 2 and its official dock, and how it rejects third-party docks [03:25].
The speaker speculates that this is a deliberate choice by Nintendo to ensure compatibility only with their own devices [08:21], forcing consumers to buy expensive, Nintendo-approved accessories [09:01].
The video also touches on other issues, such as the Switch 2's charging speed and lack of variable refresh rate when docked [10:46].
The speaker suggests that the best way for consumers to respond is to avoid buying Nintendo's games and products until these issues are addressed [13:19].
The video notes that some third-party docks have managed to work with the Switch 2, although this could be changed by Nintendo with a firmware update [13:54].

They probably did a market analysis that concluded that very few Nintendo Switch customers are using 3rd party docking stations; as such it would not be worth the investment to make them widely compatible.
But if their assessment is flawed then it could end up being a bad business decision.

No, that display tech for usb dongles is an industry standard. Thats why it works for switch 1, phones, laptops, etc. Nintendo made an investment to make sure they would no longer work.

Correct. They invested in actively thwarting 3rd party dongles by adding code and permissions. If they had done nothing, it would be universal (as the U, in USB denotes

Why should this inspire outrage, rather than something like the flight industry moving towards "user based" pricing?
Nintendo can shoot itself in the foot, I doubt anyone follows the lead on this one.

What's Apple have to do with this? I use 3rd party accessories on my Apple stuff on the daily without issues.

Historically Apple had a bad history with using lightning to funnel its customers to Apple products.
Here is a discussion on an Apple forum about it
*ETA: This is likely why they resisted using standard USB cables for so long. They still likely would if not for the EU being authoritarians.

Yup. "Official" Apple cables had a tiny chip in the port that Apple devices were programmed to look for and handshake with. That was literally its only job. No handshake, no connection.

If I owned a Nintendo, I might care. Alas....

They are also doing something very good also. By raising there so cards to a new stand6 SD express are going to start showing. up more often. Those cards basically have ssd speeds in a removable that can last for decades. Sd express.is a game changer. You can buy a device with 128 gbs of storage tomorrow that will be good for a year or two. Now they want you you to buy a whole new system to upgrade when in the near future a $30 sdcard could handle that whatch how long that will take for micro sd expresz press%. to be adopted outside of
