Travis Hunter number retirement

I’m not even getting into Shedeur, he’s the definition of being born on third and thinking you hit a triple so he probably thinks he deserves it.
Do you think Hunter is embarrassed about his number already being retired by Colorado before he ever plays a down in the NFL? Teammates have got to make a little fun of him for it, especially since the teams he played on never won anything of note.
He won the heisman so at least there is some justification for it, but everyone still knows it’s ridiculous that his number is already retired.

I have no problem with it. He’s one of, if not the, best player in the programs history and won the Heisman. What does waiting 5 years accomplish?

I mean someone wins the heisman every year. Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels didn’t get their numbers retired as soon as they graduated.
Hell Joe Burrows high school number isn’t even retired

It's definitely kind of knee jerk, but deserved.
Colorado didn't retire its other Heisman winner's number - Rashaan Salaam's #19 - until 10 months after he died, which was 23 years after he won the award.
Regarding the Burrow and Daniels comment, LSU and Colorado are just slightly different football programs.

Deion got his number retired because he couldn’t just get only his son’s number retired. And his son’s number wasn’t going to get retired once he was no longer the HC

Shedeur's number being retired is the most ridiculous fricking thing that I've seen in CFB.
Just so embarrassing for that program. God damn.

Both of their numbers should be retired

Nope
He won a Heisman
I’ve seen jerseys retired for less

Time contextualizes things and makes you more appreciative
I think most players would prefer to be honored after their careers are over. It's hard for many to fully enjoy the past when they're still in the present

There's levels to it.
There's situations and standards each university wants to abide by.
A random person on Tigerdroppings.com MSB creating a thread to discuss and go after players at Colorado is pretty lame, even more lame than the actual gesture made by the University.
Leave it alone, let it be, it has absolutely no impact on you, yet you made a thread to discuss it so it obviously struck some nerve somewhere, but meh let it be.
There's way worse things in this world to be upset about or let dictate your moods, don't let a jersey retirement at a shitty school do that to you.
Move on

Not even close.
Dan Mullen once coached a game in shorts.
Mississippi State lost that day to South Alabama, who was in their third season of full-time FBS play.
Mississippi State also played a true freshman named Jeffrey Simmons that day, although Dan Mullen had the courage to suspend him for the first half of the game (Mississippi State was up 17-0 at the half). This was just five months after Simmons, a highly sought after recruit to say the least, was videoed repeatedly punching a woman who was lying on the ground in the face (he eventually pled no contest to misdemeanor charges).

Hopefully whenever Colorado has a new coach and AD, they come in and wipe out that mistake.
QB that went 13-12 with an Alamo Bowl loss and going 1-7 against ranked teams isn't anything to be that proud of.

I think the shorts are several orders of magnitude less embarrassing than retiring the Sanders kid's number.

That's nice, but you're wrong.
Wearing shorts
Losing to a Sun Belt program in its third year of full-time FBS membership after leading 17-0 at halftime
Playing a woman beater after having the fortitude to suspend him for the first half
Being a scientologist
All of these things are infinitely more embarrassing than retiring an all-conference QB's number, especially when that QB was the conference offensive player of the year and a second-team All-American and led your school to its best season in a long time.

*I BELIEVE* that the Sanders number retirement is the most fraudulent thing in CFB. *YOU BELIEVE* that Dan Mullen is the most fraudulent thing in CFB.
Dan Mullen took perennial shithouse Mississippi State to an Orange bowl. Sanders lost the Alamo Bowl by 20+.
If you believe that a second team all American season is enough to retire a kids number and that it totally has nothing to do with Daddy's last name, I'm happy for you.

What am I missing? What's wrong with wearing shorts?

I can't fault them for retiring Hunter's number. He's legit one of the best players throughout all of Colorado's history. I reckon they haven't had many players drafted top 3 in the NFL draft.
Shedeur, however, is unquestionably a laughable move. Perhaps he is one of the better quarterbacks in their history. But he wasn't transcendent enough overall to warrant getting his literal jersey retired. If Colorado won the Big 12 last year, then maybe I could buy it. But that didn't happen.
