CFB games on Thursday/Friday night

I always figured the entire point of playing these games is so you can have your game nationally televised.
This Thursday SFA plays at Houston and it’s stream only on espn+. Couldn’t they just have played Saturday night if it were stream only on espn+?
Central Arkansas is playing at Mizzou on SEC network so that makes sense to play Thursday night so it can be nationally televised.
There’s a ton of Thursday games on stream only. Seems pointless if you’re one of these teams. Someone make sense of this

This also works well for attendance because so many students go home or to the Lake for Labor Day Weekend. It’s a win/win for actual attendance and TV exposure.

Maybe has something to do with area ESPN-contracted broadcasters and their schedules? If they do other ESPN+ televised games.
UofH's schedule to start the season does seem to jump around:
This Thursday hosting SFA
Next Saturday at Rice
Friday, Sept 12 hosting Colorado
Bye Week
Another Friday, Sept 26, at Oregon State
Then Saturdays for the rest of their regular season schedule

The Big12 loves them some Friday night games. Been like this for a while now.

Yes it makes sense for Mizzou but let’s say the game wasn’t nationally televised. It was stream only. Would you still want it to be Thursday?

The conferences gave carte blanche to the networks to schedule games on days and times that they deem best for them.
You can lay this problem at the feckless feet of the conference commissioners who are kneeling at the altar of the almighty dollar.

sure they could, but there are a LOT more games on TV and streaming on Saturday than there are on Thursday.
Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Missouri are the only Power 4 schools playing night games Thursday
whereas on Saturday, Night you have:
LSU/Clemson
USC
Ole Miss
Florida
K-State
Michigan
Texas Tech
SMU
Arizona State
Washington State
Cal
Oregon State
Arizona
Utah/UCLA
Washington
as a smaller game, you want to compete against 3 bigger games, or 15 bigger games basically stretching coast to coast?

ESPN + pays for tv right as well. I’m not sure about that game but quite a few big 12 games are plus only for example.

At SLU we would have Thursday games to start the season a few times I can remember at home. One was the year after we won the conference, and then against Jacksonville St the year before they moved up.
It helps get students at the game, which is a big problem at SLU because of LSU fandom, no class on Friday so those on campus go home, and just general commuter school issues. Also helps get more eyes on you from people like sports writers and people who follow FCS closely since there isn't 100 other games on that day.

I’m ok with LSU playing one or two early games as long as they are after mid October. 11 AM kick vs WKU won’t kill us.
2:30 kick vs Arkansas in mid-November isn’t that bad. It will be dark midway thru the fourth qtr.
Any LSU home games prior to October 18th should be only played at 6:30 or later. Whether that puts us on ESPN+ only or on ABC.

I always thought FCS could do more to get eyes on their games. One thing would be to get their big games played in slots that aren’t busy. Wednesday nights for example.
It’s just really hard to get people to change the channel when an SEC or Big10 game is on

The student body needs to go visit mommy and daddy after 2 weeks of school rather than go to the football opener?

The ACC plays a lot too on Friday and Thursday.
