It's brilliant strategy, though. If they don't get caught, they get the smear at the very least. If they do get caught, they can say, "Well, you did it", even if you didn't and they only accused you of it.

Any real journalist would’ve asked the most OBVIOUS follow-up question – did you or did you not claim on federal mortgage applications that the property you bought in Maryland was your primary residence?
That's the only real question here. As someone whose primary residence has to be in California because he’s a Congressperson from California, any claims or representations that his Maryland property is his primary residence is fraudulent. As a result, if he claimed it as his primary residence, he committed mortgage fraud and perjury in filing these federal FHA mortgage loan applications. And the only possible reason he would've done that is to get better rates and terms.
Of course, we all know Kristen Welker is nothing more than a cog in the Joseph F. Goebbels Memorial Propaganda Wing of the DNC. Therefore, there was no fricking way she was going to ask the most obvious follow-up question.

I disagree. I think it's a deceitful, immoral, corrupt strategy that would be used by those of poor character. This is Nellie Olsen behavior to say the least.
