That "The Bengals Are Cheap" Thread Revisited
Posted on 8/24/25 at 5:19 pm

Boomer Esiason & 8 others have been set for induction into the Bengals Ring of Honor. He received an email with the invite attached, from the Bengals front office. As part of the invitation, it was noted that a set of hotel rooms had been blocked off for the inductees. Noted also was the statement that he would be paying for the room himself. All the others, listed, received the same invite. They, too, would be paying for their own rooms.

Burrow and Chase signed big deals already so I guess we’ll see these threads until 2030

Was someone arguing that the Bengals owner is not cheap?
I thought it was a well known fact that the entire organization pinches pennies

The owners are billionaires.. SIGN YOUR PLAYERS. They won’t even miss it… I mean how much money do you really need if you are already a BILLIONARE…..

PJ I think the Browns have bene kept within the Brown family, so until they sell it, they're only billionaires on paper.
NFL teams make money but they don't profit THAT much. The real value is the appreciation in the value of the franchise itself, but that's only realized at the sale.

I one day would love to live with as little shame as Paul brown. That’s just embarrassingly cheap and the dude don’t give a frick

He owns his licensing for starters. Don’t make yourself look like an idiot here Peej. Big difference between net worth and free cash flow

I’m just saying to ANY owner that wants to win to pay the key players that will make that happen.. family owned teams should pay these guys or just get out of it. Why even own. A Franchise if you aren’t gonna pay to win??!

Because they keep increasing in value a lot faster than just about any other asset on planet earth

So SFP is wrong at saying these owners make very little profit???

No
Asset valuation and profit aren’t the same thing but this is very on brand for you

And Paul Brown doesn't?

I think Mike Brown runs things now.

No, he does not. The NFL Trust has exclusive rights to enter licensing agreement for every franchise, except the Cowboys. This has been covered extensively

Boomer Esiason is already in the ring of honor. I’m sure when he got in a couple years ago they took care of him. Everyone thinks he’s getting inducted this year. He’s not. Why would he need more than 2 free tickets. The guys getting inducted this year and their families will be taken care of

I thought this thread in the discussion was about the Bengals not the browns or the cowboys or saints

Eh. I think owners average 50 million a year in profit after all said and done

quote:Jones has multiple sources of wealth: oil and gas, the Cowboys, real estate. He was wealthy when he bought the Cowboys. The Brown family business is the Bengals, they have no other wealth. The issue for the Brown family, and probably some other owners, is that the collective bargaining agreement requires a significant amount of money to be deposited in an escrow account for guaranteed contracts. It's not necessarily the entire amount, but there's a formula that basically requires a pretty big chunk of it to be set aside. So the Bengals have likely had to put several hundred million dollars in escrow to cover Burrow, Chase and Higgins in just the last couple of years. No matter how wealthy you are, that is a lot of money.

Wait til Boomer and the boys get the bill for the tickets and hospitality box for the game when they are inducted.
