Started working around the deer lease this weekend

River finally went down and stayed down for everything to get dry enough. Two days of chainsawing and bush hogging roads, shooting lanes, and food plots all day till dark. Hot as hell and I aint got no gas left in my tank. But I'm so glad its started and we got about halfway done. You do it when you have the weekends to do it even if it's 90 degrees. Got home and threw a 20# bag of ice in a cold bath and soaked with a cold arse adult beverage.

I wish I was doing the same, but I spent yesterday, today, and will spend tomorrow on three different rental properties. My attention will turn to deer property soon enough though.

I’ll be at it next weekend. It’s definitely a labor of love. Got fallen trees to cut, lanes to clip, feeders to rebuild, and will probably start disking too.

Went a couple of weeks ago and bushhogged and cut all the trees and trails. Went up today and refilled feeders and put out more cams.

By your handle we are the same age. I definitely dont take risks like I used to. Also Im very conscience of dehydration and take lots of breaks when doing manual labor/chainsawing/etc. Im not too proud to say I cant sling it like I could in my 30’s

Yeah, I was pounding gatorades and liquid IV all day. We have some local young men that we hire to help...I definitely let them do the heavy lifting

Be careful in the heat folks. Portable neck fans and electrolytes. Fans are under $30 on Amazon.

It wasn't even very hot this weekend. Had a nice north breeze and low humidity. We did the same food plot work and I can't recall having better weather in August.

Last weekend we cleaned up all the trails and cut the food plots. This weekend we were out there with the sprayers killing the plots. Next weekend we will clean out the box stands and move around the ladder stands. Weekend after that we will disc. Then all that’s left it is to plant whenever we get rain in October.
I’m already think about deer chili at the camp the first weekend of bow season

Brother I am with you. Even in 90 degree heat it sure beats being at the office. Good luck this season.

I cleared all the downed limbs from the trails Saturday. The roads got repaired yesterday morning and plots clipped yesterday afternoon.
I just got done clearing along the creek that run through one of the fields and opened up another 1/2 acre. Will spray plots with roundup in a couple weeks.

Seems like we're all on the same timeline! I bushhogged my plots last weekend and cleaned up most of the trails. I have a massive oak tree across a main trail that's going to be an all day job clearing. I planned to bug-bomb my box stands to get rid of the wasps but ran out of time.

One of these days I’m going to get smart and pick up a skid steer with a mulcher head. I may just rent one for a weekend and see how I like it.
I’ve been at it the past two weekends. I’m nearly done and will probably just hunt with my tripod anyway this year…

In my older age I have grown to enjoy working at my camp as much as anything. Have a small cabin on the lease. I’m there every other weekend doing something. Actually found a new member from contact on this site. He’s been right there with me. It maybe just some spot spraying clover, putting feed out or building boxes. Just being out of the chaos is the best therapy.

Headed to the deer camp this weekend with my young boys. Plan to mow and spray to get ready for planting food plots but it looks like it may rain. Worse case scenario I get to go watch college football and spend time outdoors with the family. I’m ready for fall!
