Who is most likely to break this streak the soonest?

Before that it was
Georgia Tech/Colorado in 1990
BYU in 1984
Miami in 1983
Penn State in 1982
Clemson in 1981
Georgia in 1980
Lot of first time winners in those days.

Forgot FSU in 1993 as well

If we're just going by the two Power Conferences, I'd put my money on:
Mississippi State
As for all P5? Virginia.... Fancy lads have no place in CFB.

This seems like the most likely to happen.
Other notable programs that don't have a claimed national title include Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Kansas State.

They'd have to hire the perfect coach and really invest in their "collective."
I'd say South Carolina is the most likely first-time winner in the SEC. Knocked on the door of the playoff last year and Clemson has proven you can get the talent there.

Louisville is as a good a guess as any.

Not anymore now that Auburn claims 1993.

Not with Ron English as Defensive Coordinator

I think it’s clearly Oregon. I don’t see anybody else being close.

Oregon is obviously the right answer but I’ll throw out Texas Tech
Posted on 8/20/25 at 4:23 pm to JamalMurry27
I’d be somewhat surprised if Oregon isn’t a fixture in the playoffs over the next 10 years

Yeah Oregon is the choice especially as long as Phil Knight lives.
Posted on 8/20/25 at 4:33 pm to JamalMurry27
It’s not hard. Auburn won 5 national championships since last week. They don’t mean anything anymore.

I was going to say Texas Tech given the money being pumped into the program.

He's mid 80s? Maybe that Nike money will pay for him some advanced medical stuff

Knight will be 88 in February. I'm willing to bet Texas Tech will still never win one because they may sign more 5 stars with that billionaire's money they will still not be able to get a deep enough roster of guys willing to go there.
