Going to try and step away from the DAT for a bit. Got some tough news last night that my Dad’s been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I’m a bit younger than most of you here. My Dad’s still in his 50s so it’s really difficult to process right now. I just feel numb

Just know I’ll still be motherfricking Dana Brown and Joe Espada over here

I could be back in a day or in a few weeks. The DAT has always been a good escape for me

Damn dude I genuinely hate to hear that. I’m on the younger side as well and lost my dad a few years ago. I think Wahoocs did as well because it was during the 2022 title run if I remember correctly

Will be thinking of you. You’d be surprised how good of an outlet this thread can be. Sometimes it’s easier to vent to strangers on the internet when you don’t wanna burden anyone else. Although, nobody really feels like strangers in here

My mother had it and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Prayers sent to you, your father, and your family for patience and strength during this time.

I will say that the doctors and staff that my mother had before and while in memory care is to make sure you take care of your personal and mental needs. Very important.

At least my mother was in her early 90s when this really appeared. Having no siblings, wife, nor children, I had to make every decision myself. Some cousins tried to second guess me a couple of times & that's why I haven't spoken to any relatives on her side of the family since her passing 7 years ago.

I made sure she had great care as the memory care, nursing home, & senior independent living place was a block from my house so I could go see her every day... I felt so bad for the residents whose family would drop them off and never come back to see them. I say F those people.

I can and will be happy to answer any questions about what it's like to care for your parent.

That is definitely a raw deal. Best of luck to you through this.

You may be a little young for this reference, but Black Flag sells an item to catch roaches called the Roach Motel. On their commercials the slogan was "Roach Motel...where roaches check in but they don't check out". The DAT is kinda that way also. We are here when you need us

Sorry to hear. I'm sure there will be plenty to cuss about regarding the Astros so vent all you want about Altuve's baserunning. Assuming he ever gets on base again.

Yep, I did a lot of this here when I was going through my cancer treatments. Didn't want to bother my family so I instead made innocent strangers listen to my venting.
You and your family will be in my prayers DSA.

Or Sanchez
Or Caratini
Or Diaz
Or Cocksuck
Or Melton
Or Cam

The lineup is full of so many holes. And the bullpen is so shitty and worn down that Chas can’t get any swings because he has to be saved to pitch the late innings. Putrid stuff.

Alzheimer’s Trial Match

Dalen this is a link to Trial Match which helps patients find potential treatment trials. Given his age there’s probably a good chance he would fit in one of them. There’s a lot of new drug trials out there so hopefully he can find some help.

Will be praying for your family. This is a terrible disease. Just lost a family member to it.

Old enough to be your daddy and fight my memory daily

As 5 Deep said, lost my dad in ‘22. It was not a long process. Cherish your time you have left, which should be much more than what your initial reaction is telling you

I have seen every stage in my practice, and there are so many variables. Don’t jump to any conclusions. But one consistently good thing is that the ones that get mean and constantly agitated are rare. Almost all are happy all the time.

Good luck, brother

Something to ponder amongst ourselves while waiting for tonight's dirge...

Can you remember a division leader in mid-August that was in as dire straits as this team?

The bullpen is gassed and they suck anyway. There is nowhere to turn for help. The all-world closer may not be heard from again. Only 2 starting pitchers even have a chance to go 6 innings, one of those being Framber, whose head is completely up his arse right now. How long can we really expect Costanza to keep going 6 innings?

With Sanchez currently 0-22, Caratini 0-16, and Trammell 1-15, there is ZERO left-handed hitting. Cam hasn't hit in 6 weeks. Altuve is on the downturn. Pena hasn't had a hit since his mystery illness. Diaz has gone back to swinging at anything that moves.

They are riding that incredible stretch of games that ended with the Dodger sweep that got them 20 over .500, which we knew deep down wasn't sustainable. The dominating pitching and timely hitting predictably dried up. They are only in first place because of the incompetence of the rest of the division.

It reminds me a little of the 1982 Braves. The only difference is that the Braves just weren't that great...the Astros issue has been a ridiculous amount of injuries,

The Braves won their first 13 games....and were up 9 games on July 29 then lost 15 of 16 to fall 2.5 games back. They put Chief Nakahoma's teepee back up, steadied themselves, and ended up winning the division by 1 game with 89 wins.

The team was full of a bunch of very mediocre players around Dale Murphy who just happened to have good years (nothing about Rafael Ramirez, Glenn Hubbard, and Bruce Benedict screams "championship")

But the only reason they won the division was because everyone else sucked. The Big Red Machine was dead, the Astros started to tail off, the Padres were still a couple years away, the Dodgers had an off year, and the Giants weren't a real threat.

Like I said yesterday, our only hope is that everyone who is cold now gets hot at the same time. Hoping for Seattle to lose every night isn't a good strategy for winning a division.

Still 4.5 games ahead of falling out of the playoffs. No business being there. None.

As a man nearing 60 with many cases of Alzheimer’s in my family history, that’s pretty terrifying. Sincere prayers for your dad and the rest of the family as they deal with this. Unfortunately, the suffering of Alzheimer’s is not reserved to the victim.
