I welcome realignment with open arms as long as it makes sense geographically. I'm also not a traditionalist and change can be fun so fuggitmayne

This is one possible geographic scenario, posed by Forbes magazine of all places, which is doing a lot more on sports these days because there’s so much money involved (potential expansion teams are included):

Northwest Division
Mariners
Giants
Salt Lake City
Rockies

West Division
Dodgers
Angels
Diamondbacks
Padres

South Division
Rangers
Astros
Royals
A’s

Southeast Division
Rays
Marlins
Braves
Nationals

East Division
Yankees
Mets
Phillies
Red Sox

Mid Division I
Tigers
Cubs
Twins
Nashville

Mid Division II
Pirates
Guardians
White Sox
Reds

Mid Division III
Cardinals
Brewers
Blue Jays
Orioles

This would be the most toxic division in sports. Make it happen Manfred!

That would impact some rivalries that fans wouldn't really like

I would hate to see some old rivalries go away, like Cardinals-Cubs, in the name of geography.

I was posting simultaneously with you on that LOL.

There are a bunch of these scenarios floating around but it’s all speculation and nothing will change probably until 2029. I just shared it to give people an idea of what a strictly geographic approach might look like.

If he makes the owners money, he’ll stay. Simple as that.

Honestly it’s long overdue. Both NFL & MLB use the old model of teams in the same city have to be in different divisions ( I think this was for attendance back before tv). But it’s dumb to have the Jets/Giants not play each other in football every year. In the city that preseason game every year gets more juice than most of the regular season games. Same with MLb and all the teams in the same city or state that are split divisional.
Hockey and NBA have it right

Why would you send a Nashville expansion team to a division with Midwest/Great Lakes teams like Chicago and Detroit?

The Brewers, Indians or White Sox belong in that division.

Agreed, again this is just one bit of speculation among many bits of speculation floating around. Jim Bowden put this out in 2023. I’m more on board with it:

EASTERN CONFERENCE

East Division
Boston Red Sox
New York Mets
New York Yankees
Philadelphia Phillies

North Division
Cincinnati Reds
Cleveland Guardians
Detroit Tigers
Toronto Blue Jays

Mid-Atlantic Division
Baltimore Orioles
Charlotte* (expansion)
Pittsburgh Pirates
Washington Nationals

Southeast Division
Atlanta Braves
Miami Marlins
Nashville* (expansion)
Tampa Bay Rays

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Midwest Division
Chicago Cubs
Chicago White Sox
Milwaukee Brewers
Minnesota Twins

Southwest Division
Houston Astros
Kansas City Royals
St. Louis Cardinals
Texas Rangers

Pacific Coast Division
Colorado Rockies
Las Vegas Athletics
Seattle Mariners
San Francisco Giants

West Division
Arizona Diamondbacks
Los Angeles Angels
Los Angeles Dodgers
San Diego Padres

The Cubs and White Sox being in the same league/division would feel awful.

That would be a terrible idea. Nukes what's left of the NL and AL, and has a lot of four-team divisions spread out over a wide geographic area.

This isn't football where it's just one game a week and home and home with your division opponents.

But if your priority is not tradition but going strictly by geographics to ensure favorable TV starting times, it’s the price you pay.

They'll still play each other and I would expect them to be in the same division
