solid? that’s underselling it a bit, don’t you think?
Posted on 8/18/25 at 8:43 am to LSURoss
I think the Cubs can win one.

6 games better than anyone else, theyre a little better than “solid”

True, but I hate them so solid is saying a lot.
They have been on an incredible run and the Cubs have fallen flat.
I got a feeling this is the turning point!!!

We'll have to see what the weather says about that.

well shite....

If they bumped the early game up to something like 11, they might be able to get one in before the weather blows through. I'd be shocked if they're able to play 2 today, though.

Unfortunately, I think this is what's going to happen as well. This team-wide offensive "slump" that's been going on makes me believe that we're now seeing who this Cubs team truly is. The offense is painful to watch. I saw a stat during the game the other day that the Cubs 1, 2, and 3 hitters have the worst OPS in baseball since July 1.

The Brew Crew have been on one of the more amazing runs I've ever seen.
They have a guy who the White Sox demoted to the minors hitting like Lou Gherig, they have another guy who was a Rule 5 pick up hitting like Joe Dimaggio, and a pitcher off the scrap heap who is pitching like Tom Seaver and until yesterday could not lose.
And the Cubs are middling along playing .500 ball the last two months and Kyle Tucker has been hitting like Jason Heyward for about that long.
Hope these two things start heading in the opposite direction today.

“Nobody cares about a team in Chicago, FU and downvote!!!” Am I doing it right?
But seriously, I’m looking forward to this series. Should be great ball.

No, I don't think the worst version of the Cubs offense is what they are.....the numbers are far worse than the norm during this stretch for the best hitters on the team. But neither were they as good as that early stretch where they were the best offensive team in baseball and that was for about 2 months.
I think what they really are is somewhere in between, just wish they'd start settling in on that somewhere in between starting today.

The cubs are favored again tonight. Everybody go get your free money.

A couple fun stats I just heard during the 20 minutes I was able to stomach:
- 2 hits through 8 innings
- They've put up a crooked number just 1 time in the last 42 innings
- They are averaging the fewest runs per game in the majors except for the Cardinals since the all star break
- Since July 1 their 1-2-3 hitters have the worst OPS in the majors
And they've been this bad for a while now. Brutal to watch.
ETA: I know I already have the last one above but thought it worth collecting it all to paint the full picture of how anemic they've been

Oh it's been brutal, you can see the anxiety on their faces when they come to bat. Tucker is lost. the meek rollover grounders to the right are Heywardesque. I'm sure his agent will spin the finger injury but I won't buy that. Tough, tough to watch.

I can't remember the last time a player as good as Kyle Tucker has looked as bad as he's looked for a 6 week period like this. He's been literally one of the worst hitters in MLB over that time frame. Add in PCA and Seiya slumping and it's a recipe for disaster.

There was nothing crucial about this series other than hanging onto a WC spot. The division is done
