The entire Midwest is red outside major urban areas.

Interesting thought. We have electoral college which helps all states become important in national elections. Its based on most votes per state.
What if we had made electoral for a state by county? I have no doubt it would change US to much much redder. It would prevent large cities from having all the say within a state. And all counties would matter - just like now all states matter - but currently only large metros within a state matter. If any toes then go by overall votes.
I know it will never happen but counties tell a different story than what we have now. And counties are where people spend a majority of their time. However they are overlooked. So candidates focus on large cities within closely contested states.

Ohio loves Trump. He can do no wrong to most. I'm not a supporter, but still, I hope he is successful. It makes no sense to root against your president over politics.

It sucks seeing 63 Louisiana parishes vote R governor +100k votes then Orleans parish votes D +101k votes. But if the total population of the state is D +1k votes, that's how it should go.
I would love to start with a clean constitution then require either 60% or 2/3 to pass anything. If something doesn't benefit at least 60% of the population, then it shouldn't pass. We shouldn't create laws that hurt 49 people because it helps 51 people. We need less restrictions first before that makes sense.

Bold take, only those who want total control would support.
Without EC all elections would be decided by top 20 large cities. The rest of country would be disenfranchised. Its one of the many great things about our country.
As is its still a system where large states matter more but since the 4 largest states are split 2-2 it means all other states matter. And forces candidates to consider them when coming up with policies.
My take is just going another step and make counties within a state count for 1 each. Then most winning counties would give electoral votes to that candidate. And would mean each county is just as important as others.
This is just for presidential elections. But its a pipe dream, win’t happen.
Your not liking electoral college tells me all I need to know. It would mean Pubs never win another POTUS again, ever. 20 cities would run our country.

I am talking federal only (POTUS) not statewide elections.
But no founder imagined having super mega cities of 7 million either, it wasn’t thought of like that. Dems have flooded cities with crime and people needing freebies and its killed our election systems.

Then almost half the IL seats in the US House should be RED. But the Dems gerrymander it so they spread just enough of those blue votes around for a majority Dem in a bunch of districts, and corral a bunch of RED votes together in just a few districts. But of 17 seats, Dems have 14, Rs 3. Should be 9/8 or maybe 10/7.
ETA: The Red districts are 12,15,16. You can see how they spread the D population as needed, and lumped the Rs to those three.

Pat Quinn won the governorship of Illinois around 2008 by winning only 3 counties out of 102.

Nah. Just go to mixed member-proportional representation in the House, and increase its size to 650 or 700 to account for it.
