Looking at the UFC deal w/Paramount+ makes me like Dana even more.

Consider this, and I know that the money paid and more eyeballs on the sport were the driving factor, I get that. But when was the last time a major sport (NFL, MLB, NBA, NCAA, etc) did something that also gave the fans a break?
The true winners here are the fans.
I just heard on PMT’s interview with Dana that under the PPV model fans had to basically pay $1100 a year if they wanted to watch every single fight. When this deal goes into effect, fans will only be paying something like $150ish a year to watch every fight.
I said it in the original thread on this topic, but Dana really and truly may be the greatest sports/entertainment CEO of all time.

I don’t consider myself a UFC fan but have bought a few fights. This has my interest because many times I’ve wanted to tune in but wasn’t willing to pay when I didn’t really know anything about the matchups or the event was already half over. Big win for diehard and casual fans alike.

think about how huge the july 4th white house card will be next year on cbs on the 4th of july. almost every tv set will be tuned in. It will be similar to the superbowl I would imagine.

My guess is that PPV buys have steadily decreased over time so they were looking for a way out and Paramount offered them a golden opportunity.
With even the most expensive tier of Paramount plus not being ad-free for live TV, even streaming events are probably going to be chock full of commercials. Paramount's going to have to claw back a lot of dough somehow so be prepared for fans bitching about all the ads during live cards.

The ability to steal PPV has also become much easier. Thats why I think concentrating on ad revenue and capturing total views, not only across all live streaming platforms, but also clips on social media platforms, to sell advertisers on the amount of eyes that see their advertisements is what this deal is about. UFC really tracks this sort of thing and I have heard them talk about it quite a bit. The power slap league follows this method also.

Yeah Zuffa were really hard asses on piracy but once the company was sold streams seemed to be a lot easier to find.
I thought ESPN could have done more to promote the UFC but heard Helwani talking yesterday about how Paramount/CBS's social media following is tiny compared to ESPN, which he thought could be an issue but that's Paramount's problem because, unless they go under, the UFC's getting paid.
The one risk is that with the change in Paramount ownership, the NFL can get out of its contract with Paramount after two years if they want, which would be devastating for Paramount's finances.

This deal doesn’t add up. I don’t see how they get their money back at the current pricing.
Paramount is currently included as part of a Walmart plus membership and Im sure there are other memberships that do the same.
Paramount plus will probably double in price and/or create another level with a higher monthly premium.
Look for prices to go up across the board

Paramount+ is already solid if you follow communist kickball. The UFC addition is amazing
(Can’t wait to see how they’ll frick it up)

Pay Per View is such an outdated model with all the streaming services
Their viewership gonna go way up

Do they still do the gladiator intro?

I don’t think Dana is all that great. How many CEO’s try to make it all about themselves? He’s arrogant, egotistical, and tries to make everything about himself. UFC pay-per -views while going away still only have 5 fights so they can cram in an hours worth of ads which is ridiculous. I still don’t know how he survived the slap fighting premier after a domestic violence incident.
But I will say his decision way back in the day to have the UFC regulated by state boxing commissions saved the sport- and was one of the best sports related recessions ever. Even if we are still stuck with scoring rounds, which doesn’t really work in mma.

Man, I can’t begin to disagree with you more.

UFC needs major tent pole events to go to the next level, like WreslteMania and SummerSlam. Without the major characters of the past, the average Joe isn’t tuning in to UFC 437 Pitlonki v Dominicrrich. The numbering convention doesn’t make sense anymore.

This... there are no more "big names" or house hold names anymore. No more flash

Show me an example of this please
Ariel Helwani, is that you?

I'm not disagreeing with your point, but if you're going to thank someone, thank the people who actually make the business decisions. Before Ari Emmanuel it was the Fertittas. He's not even on the board of directors. Dana is a good fight promoter, but that's about all he does.

The NFL is doing damn near the polar opposite.
You need Amazon Prime for some games, Hulu for some games, your regular streaming service for some games. It's wild.

The average meathead won't tune in, maybe. I'm enjoying MMA now more than ever. I'd rather enjoy the sport of MMA rather than the spectacle of roided out caricatures parading around the cage.
