Driver of car shows up in a parking lot to meet another guy on foot wanting to sell his gaming console. The person is standing outside the car with his gaming console where the driver receives the gaming console and is inspecting it. The driver tries to steal the gaming console and starts to drive off, the guy on foot punches the driver thru the car door window right in the face(rightfully so), driver pulls his weapon after being punched in the face and shoots the guy on foot dead.
Whats the verdict based on this information.
Self defense
1st degree M
2nd degree M
Negligent homicide
Man slaughter

Whatever covers a murder committed in the course of attempting/committing a felony.

The driver shot and killed a person while in commission of a crime.

Sounds like murder in furtherance of felony theft. Depends on the jurisdiction but that would probably be 1st degree murder.

Whatever the one that gets him the most time in jail!

I'd also want to know how authorities learned that the driver attempted to steal the PS5. Dead men tell no tales. Were there other witnesses?

Is trying to steal a ps5/xbox a felony?

Guilty of being a dumb arse willing to meet in a parking lot to sell a gun.
Now change the situation. Agree to meet in a police department building or sheriff's office so you can have everyone's id's verified and the serial number of the gun traced.

Person turned himself in and confessed after being manhunted for a couple of days from what I was told.

If in BR or NOLA, the result would more likely be one of the following:
-Never arrested or charged
-Arrested, and back on the streets from low bail
-Retained with high bail, but the DA misses the filing date to bring charges.
-Escapes jail, or is mistakenly released due to a similar name.
-The case miraculously makes it to a trial, and the key evidence is compromised/missing.

Committed felony and then shot and killed someone.
That creates 1st degree murder charges
Kind of like robbing a store and shooting the clerk

You generally cannot commit a crime and then claim self defense.

That’s why you should always shoot people in the leg.

If he ran away and the situation ended and then the guy chased him down and assaulted him it may be a bit more nuanced, but during the active crime no.
